These 10 Designers Brought Real Diversity To Fashion Week, We Applaud Them

This Is Real Life With Real People

There has always been a belief that people who model on runways should be tall, skinny or have a certain race. Usually, according to the concept of the collection or the image of the brand wants to represent .

2017 seems to be a turning point to break up with old patterns. Nowadays to show yourself as you really are is rocking. The acceptance of yourself in society has reached the runways of NY Fashion Week. Multiple designers gave themselves the task of opening the way to equality and respect.

Their voices have been listened

While the mainstream is slowly but surely widening its standards of beauty, high fashion runways are taking longer to adjust. As a response to the lack of diversity an unhealthy weight control practices, which represent a serious problem in the fashion industry, forty-three models signed a petition demanding more diversity before this season’s New York Fashion Week started. A full-page ad in New York Times did the same.

Make your voice the world’s hope

It’s extraordinary how both models and designers, raised their voice to establish a new face in fashion, one that does not discriminate.

“All our runway models represent those who inspire us, whether it’s trans women, women of color, curve models, that’s my world and that’s the world we live in and that’s who I want to celebrate,” declared Becca McCharen last year in an interview for  The Huffington Post.
