We all love animated movies, and Pixar animations have taken these movies to a whole new level. So, we know these movies involve a lot of work and sometimes it even takes up to 2 years to make them.
And the truth is that the final result, meaning the movie, is just a small percentage of all the data, images and a tiny bit of the long process that is to make the movie. Let’s learn about some fun fact about our favorite movies.
1. In Ratatouille none of the human characters have toes. Animators did this in order to save time.
2. Have you counted Bruce’s teeth? There are 202.
3. Have you noticed that most of the monsters in Monsters, Inc. have the same tongue that Mike? Yep, almost up to 90%.
4. Queen Elinor’s dress was a replica of an actual dress, designed by the art department of the movie, sounds like a lot of hard work.
5. We all loved Inside Out. Did you know an average image took about 29 hours to render? I call that dedication.
6. Since we’re talking about time and dedication. It took over a month to digitally paint Al’s car in Toy Story 2.
7. I always wondered how did they think about these many doors…now I know that all the bedroom doors were made from different combinations of 26 paint colors, 12 styles, 8 shades of wood, 10 decals, 6 doorknob designs and 3 hardware types.
8. Turns out that the food in Ratatouille was real. Yeah, the creators made over 270 pieces of food, they photographed them and also ate them.
9. There are about 1,000 unique props in the interior of the truck in Wall-E.
10. It took a team of five modelers and five shading artist more than a month to make them all, it seems Pixar likes to take things to a new level.
11. Brave was the first Pixar film with a castle in it. In order to prepare for the challenge, the production team visited and studied a number of castles.
12. So, DunBroch Castle was designed entirely from scratch. It was built in 3-D models in a computer, impressive.
13. An average of 4 seconds of footage per week was produced by each animator on Up.
14. During Toy Story 2, the most animation produced in one week was 5 minutes and 42 seconds.
15. Baby Dory was originally only supposed to have one speaking line, in Finding Dory.
16. Sulley has 25,336 “key” hairs that are used to guide the motion and shape of his 2.3 million other hairs.
17. If made in one single computer, it would have taken 10,000 years to render Monsters University. That’s so much time.
18. Inside Out is made up of more than 146,000 images.
19. Digital modelers create virtual 3D models of a film’s characters based on the concept art.
20. Joy was an especially tricky model, it took 17 iterations to get her just right, and they did it.
