Madonna took Instagram on Saturday, to announce she’s moving to Portugal. The singer took her six children and are now settling in Lisbon, a city she finds inspiring.
Madonna also announced she’ll be working on new projects. The songstress is preparing her musical comeback and is working in an upcoming movie.
Winds of change for Madonna
The pop star has been making her transition into the European country throughout the summer, with Portuguese magazine Visao reporting last month she has obtained a tax identification number in the nation to legally conduct business there.
And on Saturday the ‘Like a Virgin’ hitmaker revealed her move is now complete and she is having a blast settling into her new home in Portugal’s capital city of Lisbon.
“I used to be a basket case but now I Live in Lisbon!” she captioned a photo of several pans hanging from the ceiling in her fabulous new kitchen. American pop queen Madonna left her native state of Michigan for New York City in the late 1970s and she has called the Big Apple her home for four decades until now.
The star fell in love with Portugal when she toured there in 2004 and she plans to create inspiring art from her new home base.
“The energy of Portugal is so inspiring,” she gushed in another post.
“I feel very creative and alive here and I look forward to working on my film LOVED and making New Music!!! This will be the next Chapter in My Book! It’s time to conquer the world from a different vantage point!!”
Madonna relocated from New York City to Lisbon with her four adopted children from Malawi. In addition to David and Mercy, who she adopted in 2006 and 2009 respectively, she became an adoptive mother to twin girls in February.
Helming a brand new project
As Madonna shared on her Instagram post, she’s working on an upcoming movie titled ‘Loved.’
The movie marks Madonna’s first directorial effort since 2011’s ‘W.E.’, which explored King Edward VIII’s abdication of the throne to be with American divorcée Wallis Simpson.
Her new project is an adaptation of Andrew Sean Greer’s novel ‘The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells’.
“It touches on a lot of really important topics I’ve always been invested in or championed — fighting for women’s rights, gay rights, civil rights, always fighting for the underdog,” Madonna said of Loved in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar published in January.
“I’ve always felt oppressed. I know a lot of people would go, ‘Oh, that’s ridiculous for you to say that. You’re a successful white, wealthy pop star,’ but I’ve had the s— kicked out of me for my entire career,” she added.
“And a large part of that is because I’m female and also because I refuse to live a conventional life. I’ve created a very unconventional family. I have lovers who are three decades younger than me. This makes people very uncomfortable.”
The ‘Like a Virgin’ and ‘Vogue’ singer — who has acted in the movies ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’, ‘A League of Their Own’ and ‘Evita’ has also helmed the films ‘W.E.’ and ‘Filth and Wisdom’.
New beats coming up
Many of Madonna’s fans are more than happy to hear new music from the star.
After all, she hasn’t released an album since 2015’s ‘Rebel Heart’, which was completely botched. Demos of more than 30 of the songs from various 2014 recording sessions leaked four months before the album’s planned release date.
When Madonna’s album was pushed up due to the leaks, it arrived with a thud. However, the tour that followed the album’s release was a huge hit despite the usual flack about the pop queen being “too old.”
Speaking of ageism, Madonna has spoken very candidly about the topic. She was widely praised for her 2016 speech that was given after she accepted the award for “Woman of the Year” at a Billboard Music Awards event.
“Do not age. Because to age is a sin. You will be criticized, you will be vilified, and you will definitely not be played on the radio,” Madonna said with her eyes watering up.
Since wrapping the worldwide jaunt in March 2016, Madonna has been focusing on her family. The superstar adopted 4½-year-old twins Estere and Stella in February and has four older children, Lourdes, 20, Rocco, 17, David, 11, and Mercy James, 11 — the latter two of whom were also adopted from Malawi.
The ‘Living for Love’ singer in July opened a new pediatric surgery center in the southeast African nation and helped raise $30 million in one night at the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation’s fourth annual fundraising gala in St. Tropez, France.
Madonna’s forthcoming music project will be her first 14th studio album and the first since the release of ‘Rebel Heart’ in March 2015. A live DVD and CD album of the ‘Rebel Heart’ tour is due Sept. 15.
