Iman’s Tribute For David Bowie Will Break Your Heart

Iman Posted A Special Tribute To Her Late Husband, David Bowie, To Commemorate Their 25th Anniversary

David Bowie’s wife Iman took Instagram to post a special tribute to the late artist, commemorating the day that would have marked their 25th wedding anniversary.

On June 6, the 61-year-old Somali supermodel, Iman posted on Instagram a black-and-white photo of her husband David Bowie. In the picture, Bowie is seen kissing her forehead as the two share an umbrella, with the caption “June 6th #BowieForever. The pic is accompanied by a text that says “I would walk forever, just to be in your arms again.” Making the whole world cry.

It’s been nearly a year-and-a-half since the rock god lost his private battle with cancer, on Sunday, January 10, 2016. Two days earlier, he celebrated his 69th birthday with the release of what turned into his final album, ‘Blackstar.’ The hype around the amazing album didn’t prepare us for what came next.

I remember waking up in the middle of the night that Sunday, with a text from a friend that said, “David Bowie just died.” After confirming the news on Twitter, I curled up on my bed and started to cry. And so did the rest of the world, after losing one of the most iconic and groundbreaking figures in popular music of the last 50 years. But no one had a worse time than Iman did, that’s for sure.

The couple got married two years after meeting

Bowie and Iman were introduced by a mutual friend at a party in 1990. In a posterior interview, Bowie recalled, “I was naming the children the night we met (…) it was absolutely immediate.”

Technically, the couple married on April 22, 1992, in Switzerland, but they solemnized their wedding on June 6, 1992, in Florence. When Bowie wasn’t making music, touring and being amazing, he was spending time close to her, living in New York City. They had their first and only child, Alexandria “Lexi” Zahra Jones in August 2000.

The photo is just one of the countless portraits of the couple Iman has shared. Back in January, the model posted a picture of the two, secretly kissing behind a hat, to honor the one-year anniversary of the musician’s death. Later, on Valentine’s Day, she shared another black-and-white picture of the two sharing a kiss, with the caption “My Forever Valentine.”

Last year, to celebrate what would have been their 24th wedding anniversary, Iman posted a photo of the two on the beach, with the words “The best thing about me is you” written over the pic.
