Star of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Erika Jayne, has called it quits with her husband Tom Girardi after 21 years of marriage. The reality star filed for divorce from her husband on November 3.
“After much consideration, I have decided to end my marriage to Tom Girardi,” Erika said in an exclusive interview. “This is not a step taken lightly or easily. I have great love and respect for Tom and for our years and the lives we built together. It is my absolute wish to proceed through this process with respect and the privacy that both Tom and I deserve. I request others to give us that privacy as well.”
The couple married in 1999. In her 2018 memoir, Pretty Mess, Erika, 49, recalled how they met. She said they had met at a Chasen’s in West Hollywood, where Erika served as a waitress while Tom was a regular customer. She said after a year of working in the restaurant, she decided to make contact with Tom by slipping her telephone. Tom, 81, an attorney, had decided to reach out to her through his secretary.
However, Erika felt insulted and told the secretary to inform Tom that he should reach out to her himself. Mr. Girardi must have been impressed by her sheer display of self-esteem because six months later, the pair were engaged.
However, critics have not failed to criticize Erika’s choice of a partner, citing their 33-year age difference. Erika has defended her actions on numerous occasions. She said she was tired of hearing the same old story of people insinuating she married Tom because of his wealth. She cites the number of years she had been married to Tom as an indication that she was clearly not after the material things she could gain from the marriage, Eonline reports.
Tom shunned the spotlight and was not a regular face at the reality show. In her memoir, she also said he hated wearing a wedding ring.
She once revealed a shocking detail in the marriage to Andy Cohen in 2017. She said she did not sign a prenup and that the document didn’t really matter because her husband always had his way on things whenever he was hellbent on them.
Erika had been married previously to Thomas Zizzo, with whom she shares a 26-year-old son Tommy Zizzo.
