Chance The Rapper Live-Streamed His Interaction With Chicago Police

“Can’t Be Too Careful”

Chance The Rapper live-streamed his interaction with Chicago Police on Sunday. The rapper took to social media to record the encounter with the Police, after him and his wife were asked to pull over.

The rapper’s been consistently outspoken about America’s police brutality problem. Earlier this year, during his acceptance speech for the BET Humanitarian Award he highlighted courts’ repeated failure to convict officers.

“Can’t be too careful” when it comes to the police

Chance the Rapper decided not to leave anything to chance and was extra cautious when he was asked to pull over.

The Grammy winner was with the mother of his daughter Kensli, Kirsten Corley. She was the one driving when they were pulled over by a police officer on Sunday in Chicago.

Which caused him to pull out his phone and immediately live-stream the situation on his Instagram account.

Chance’s decision came in the wake of a number of horrifying incidents involving people of color and police at traffic stops in this country.

“I appreciate y’all watching me,” he told the camera. “Just please stay on until this traffic stop is over.”

While Chance was extra cautious he also highlighted that he had faith in humanity and expected thins would work just fine.

“I just want y’all to be here, in case it gets out of hand. Should be good though. Should be straight. I have great faith in humanity and the men and women that put on the badge. But, you know, can’t be too careful,” he said.

But the singer was also outspoken about the police system and the systematic incidents.

“Once again, a lot of faith in the men and women… big faith in the men and women that put on the uniform. But policing as a system is disproportionately racist and oppressive, so, you know, ” he said.

Unfortunate incident with NYPD

While Chance’s interaction with the Chicago Police, fortunately, came to no harm, Cardi B had a more aggressive interaction with NYPD last week.

The singer that recently rose to the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with her hit ‘Bodak Yellow’ opened up on Tuesday about an allegedly hostile experience she had with the New York Police Department a week ago.

Last week, the rapper posted a now-deleted tweet last week claiming that an officer put her in a chokehold, which read:

“I can’t believe this cop put me in a choke hole [sic] just now shit is crazy these NY cops don’t know how to do they job FUCK 12.”

According to the rapper, she and her cousin were stuck New York City traffic. They got into an argument with another driver.

When they approached the driver the altercation was interrupted by a police officer that came “out of nowhere” and “put me in a chokehold with my hand on my back like a chicken wing,” she stated.

“I couldn’t breathe,” she said.

“And, I couldn’t believe it. There are two men that are about to square up. You’re so pussy you won’t even hold back the men. You’re gonna put the female in a chokehold.”
