The Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood is recovering after undergoing surgery to remove a lung lesion.
The lesion was found during a routine medical exam and was quickly treated by keyhole surgery. The musician, who will turn 70 years old next week (June 1), will need no additional treatment.
According to a representative, Wood is feeling fine. In a statement, the guitarist praised medics who discovered the lesion. He Added: “I’m so grateful for modern screening which picked this up so early, and would like to thank all the doctors who treated me.”
Wood had recently quitted smoking
The rocker has twin daughters Grace and Alice who he shares with his wife Sally Humphreys. The girls will turn one year old on May 31, the day before his birthday.
Since they were born, Wood decided to give up smoking. A source said at a time that the guitarist had given cigarettes up “for good,” and opted for puffing on a vape stick instead. This is the longest time he’s gone without cigarettes in 50 years.
However, there is someone who’s not that happy with Wood’s decision. The source said that while his wife is enchanted, Keith Richards, his bandmate, thinks he looks ridiculous. Richards jokingly told Wood that they might as well not be friends “as they can no longer drink or smoke together anymore.”
But for Wood, it’s been one of his best decisions. He’s focusing on enjoying his time with his wife and twins. “Anytime I’m with her and the girls, that’s the best for me, nothing tops it,” he explained.
He believes he’s a very lucky man, as he gets to cuddle with his daughters, which he calls his “idea of heaven.”
The twins are his first children with Sally, but his fifth and sixth following Jamie, 42, Jesse, 40, Leah, 38 and Tyrone, 33, all from previous relationships.
The musician married Sally, the owner of a theater production company, in December 2012.
Wood may join his band for their upcoming European tour
The guitarist expected to make a full recovery in time to join the Rolling Stones for their ‘No Filter’ European tour, which will kick off on September 9 in Hamburg, Germany, and will visit different cities in Switzerland, Italy, Holland, France, Austria, Denmark, Spain, and Sweden.
The English band also revealed that they will not be visiting the UK during the tour, blaming a “lack of available venues.”
“Sorry to our UK fans there are no UK dates on this run, due to lack of available venues because of sporting fixtures,” the band said on Twitter. “Hope to be here in 2018.”
