Panic At The Disco’s Brendon Urie Is Making His Broadway Debut

Brendon Urie is making his Broadway debut this summer in Kinky Boots. The singer announced on Tuesday that he’ll star as Charlie, the shoe factory owner, in the glam musical from May 26 to August 6th.

This way Brendon joins the list of pop stars popping at the Broadway box office. And it’s scratching one more from his bucket list while having a great year. Panic! At the disco debuted this year a new album on the top of the Billboard 200.

Panic! At the disco’s frontman announced on Tuesday via Facebook, that he’s debuting on Broadway this summer.

He said, “That’s crazy to say because this has been on my bucket list for the longest time, and it really is a dream come true. I’m just so incredibly excited. That’s wild. Plus you guys get to see me in those heels now, so that’s pretty cool!”

Brendon who during high school built sets is now taking the lead on stage. The singer will play Charlie, the owner of a shoe factory who becomes a maker of footwear for drag queens as his business is on the brink of ruin.

The singer is no stranger to the play and is really excited for the upcoming experience, he said: “I’m a huge fan of Kinky Boots and musical theater, and I’m honored to be joining the cast.”

Brendon is finally scratching one from the bucket list and can’t hide his excitement, he added, “This is a step in an exciting direction for me because I’ve always dreamed of being a part of Broadway in some way.”

Brendon Urie Kinky Boots will run from May 26 until August 6 at the Hirschfeld Theatre, as the date approaches Urie is feeling a lot of things, “I’m terrified. I’m excited, anxious. I can’t wait to get started on it. I’m mostly just curious, really.”

The Tony Award-winning recently celebrated its fourth anniversary on Broadway. The musical is based on a 2005 British film that follows Charlie Price’s efforts, Brendon’s character, to save it from ruin.Charlie finds himself revitalizing his business by making footwear for drag queens with the help of Lola, the role for which Billy Porter won a 2013 Tony Award.

The musical has songs by Cindy Lauper and includes some fierce drag queens in 6-inch heels, which sounds like fun. Urie is taking the role originated by Stark Sands, who earned a Tony nomination in it.

The Harvey Fierstein story has won a total of six Tonys. The musical has cast notable names in the past with Wayne Brady and Todrick Hall each getting stint as Lola. Stark Sands and Billy Porter are also among the big names.

Brendon joining the Kinky Boots’ cast makes him the latest in a wave of musicians jumping to Broadway.Sara Bareilles recently cast in “Waitress”, Josh Groban in “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812”, Sting in “The Last Ship” and Billie Joe Armstrong in “American Idiot.”

Brendon who’s actually having a great year, making his dream come true is really the cherry on top.Panic! At the Disco’s Frank Sinatra-inspired fifth LP, Death of a Bachelor, dropped in January 2016 and debuted No. 1 in the Billboard 200 chart.

The album also scored a best rock album nod at the 2017 Grammys. It also got a platinum certified as it was the fourth biggest selling album released in 2016, behind Drake, Beyoncé, and Rihanna.

Brendon is the sole remaining original member of the band. Panic! debuted in 2005 with “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out.” Currently, the band’s on the road for a 36 arena tour.
