Oprah Winfrey & Lady Gaga Share Rape Experiences; Prince Harry Substance Abuse Experience

Oprah Winfrey has once again recalled how she was raped as a child over several years on a new AppleTV+ docuseries. Lady Gaga also recalled how a music producer raped and even got her pregnant during the same TV program. And the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, recalled how he took to drugs and alcohol to be able to blank out the pains of his mother’s tragic death in 1997.

The AppleTV+ docuseries is titled The Me You Can’t See and it just debuted.

Winfrey said she was raped repeatedly at age 9, 10, 11, and 12 by an older cousin who was 19 at the time. Now 67, the media mogul said she was naïve and the first time she shared the story in 1986 was when she truly began to come to terms with herself. She said she carried the guilt for many years and even blamed herself for the woe.

“At nine and 10 and 11 and 12 years old, I was raped by my 19-year-old cousin,” Winfrey revealed. “I didn’t know what rape was. I certainly wasn’t aware of the word. I had no idea what sex was, I had no idea where babies came from, I didn’t even know what was happening to me. It’s just something I accepted…that a girl child ain’t safe in a world full of men.”

As if being raped by an older relative wasn’t enough, Winfrey said her mother’s boyfriend also molested her sexually, not to mention that her grandmother whipped her so much because they were so poor.

Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, also recalled how a rape incident got her pregnant at 19. She said a music producer had raped and sexually molested her for many years, reducing her to a “total psychotic” wreck who relied on medications to live again. Now 35, the Oscar Award winner said the producer even threatened to burn all her music if she would not yield.

“First I felt full-on pain, then I went numb,” Lady Gaga said. “And then I was sick for weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks after, and I realized that it was the same pain that I felt when the person who raped me dropped me off pregnant on a corner at my parents’ house because I was vomiting and sick. Because I’d been being abused. I was locked away in a studio for months.”

At a point, the music star said she also blamed herself for being raped because of her provocative dresses and way of life, but the sexual assaults changed her life completely. She said she did many MRIs and scans and took medications to deal with her mental trauma even though she turned out to be successful in the music industry.

Both Winfrey and Lady Gaga did not disclose the identities of their rapists.

Prince Harry was only 12 when his mother, Princess Diana, died. He said his father, Prince Charles and the heir to the British throne, did not talk with him and brother Prince Williams about the pains of their mother’s death but left them to deal with it and the mounting media attention by themselves.

“I was willing to drink, I was willing to take drugs, I was willing to try and do the things that made me feel less like I was feeling,” Harry said, adding that he drank excessively to deal with his anxiety and panic attacks and largely “because I was trying to mask something.”
