Hashtag #FireGinaCarano Proves Successful as Lucasfilm Fires Gina Carano for Controversial Comments

Lucasfilm has heeded the cries on social media that American actress and TV personality, Gina Carano, should be fired after an Anti-Semitic social media post. The company, which is one of the production companies of The Mandalorian, which features Carano, released a statement that the actress is no longer working for the company and would not be a part of any future project.

“Gina Carano’s employment with Lucasfilm has ended, and we don’t have any future plans for her,” one of the company’s spokesperson stated. “We would also like to state that we completely find her posts on social media horrendous and appalling.”

The actress, who played Cara Dune in the Disney+ series, shared a story on her Instagram account stating that Republicans must now be feeling like Jews during the Holocaust. Her talent agency company, United Talent Agency (UTA) is also no longer representing the actress for the same post, according to a statement released by the agency.

The hashtag trended for hours after Carano’s post, which she later deleted, but users have been sharing screenshots of the post, calling that Carano should be fired from the series. The actress is known as a staunch far-right supporter who posts different controversial and offensive things on her social media accounts. In November 2020, she criticized the wearing of masks and also shared posts that hinted at voter fraud during the last US election.

A person familiar with the matter told reporters that Lucasfilm has been working towards sacking the actress since late last year. The source said after the day-long backlash on social media, the company finally found a way to get rid of her. The Mandalorian series started airing on Disney+ in 2019, and the show has been very successful. The actress was loved for the way she brought the character of Cara Dune alive.

Many fans of the movie franchise are, however, no longer rooting for her as a result of her controversial posts. Lucasfilm had planned to give Carano a series of her own on the streaming service but her posts about the election called for a change of plans, according to reports. The actress would also be missing out on the many spinoffs of the movie as a result of the posts.
