Not the perfect ending for a special evening
Caitlyn Jenner is currently visiting the UK where she’s promoting her book ‘The Secrets Of My Life’, in which she talks about her life, sexuality, and her transition into a woman. Caitlyn, former Bruce Jenner, completed sex reassignment earlier this year in January. The former Olympic athlete came out as a trans woman in 2015 when she even covered a Vanity Fair issue.
The upsetting incident happened while she was leaving the LGBT Awards in London. The athlete turned reality star was shouted by a photographer who said, “Hey Bruce, get your d**k out.”
Someone also reportedly threw something at her while the nasty comments were made. Caitlyn kept it cool as she walked into the limo.Police are now investigating the incident and are calling it “hate crime.” No arrests have been made yet and inquiries are ongoing.
The glamorous bash was held at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London and gathered attendees such as Katie Price, Jade Thirlwall, and Alesha Dixon. Earlier that night Caitlyn collected her Loud and Proud award, for her recognized campaigning work on LGBT issues.
Also recognized in the event were Fifth Harmony singer, Lauren Jauregui for Celebrity of the Year, and diver Tom Daley for Influencer of the Year.Prince William had a special recognition award for his campaigning work on homophobic bullying.
Caitlyn is going full political
Despite the shameful incident, Caitlyn’s visit to the UK has been quite positive as not only she was celebrated and recognized by her campaigning work, but she also delivered some huge news. During an interview with BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire program, Caitlyn expressed her feelings regarding President Trump’s policies on the LGBT community.
In last year’s US elections, Caitlyn publicly supported President Trump. The former athlete turned into star reality is still one of the most popular Republican celebrities. However, expressed she was disappointed that the new president had overturned guidance allowing transgender students to use school toilets marching their transgender identity.
At the time, in reference to the reversal on transgender access to public school bathrooms, she tweeted, “From one Republican to another, this is a disaster.”
Jenner is particularly critical of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Tweeted “Apparently even becoming attorney general isn’t enough to cure some people of their insecurities.”
Addressing Trump, the former Olympic champion said: “You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me.” Caitlyn also said that even when the action doesn’t make her regret her vote yet, it’s very disappointing and that she thought the elected President would be better on these issues.
She then explained that she had talked to him about these issues in the past, and added, “I will have more conversation with him about it in the future.”Jenner then said she was considering going into politics to promote LGBT issues. “I do a lot of political stuff, but it is mostly all behind the scenes,” she said.
She’s now considering standing for election, “I have been asked that question quite a bit, to be honest with you – over the next year, I’m looking into it.”
“I want to know where can I do a better job for my community, in bringing the Republican Party around when it comes to all LGBT issues,” she concluded.
Some words for parents of transitioning kids.
On Friday, Caitlyn discussed how hard it was to transition in the public eye. “When you do go through something like I’ve gone through in transitioning, and I have a large family, it’s not easy. It’s everybody in the family. It’s a process,” the 67-year-old said.
She also told a story about being asked how she would react if her 21-year-old supermodel daughter Kendall Jenner transitioned from female to male.
“I remember one time somebody came up and they said, ‘Oh my god, what if – okay, what if Kendall,’ my darling little girl, ‘came up and said that ‘I’m trans and I’m going to transition into a guy.’ My first reaction is ‘Oh my god.’ My little Kendall, my cute and adorable little girl?” she admitted.
“The initial shock of it was tough, but that’s what parents go through and I understand that. So it’s tough on everybody,” Jenner continued.
The LGBT activist encouraged parents to fully embrace their children as much as they can.
“The thing is, from a parent’s standpoint, especially if a child is identifying as trans at a very young age, just love your child. Love them, adore them, give them a great place to grow up that’s free and they can be themselves, and the kids will figure it out.”
