Packing Tips That Make Moving a Breeze

Man Packing Boxes

Moving is an exciting venture that is also extremely stressful and exhausting. When you think about all the details that go into the entire process from preparing your new home, looking for a moving company, transferring utilities and packing, you can get very anxious. If only everything was as easy as the mattress in a box. However, there is a way you can make moving a bit easy if you follow the right procedure. Here are a few packing tips to help make moving a breeze.

1. Start Early

The worst thing you can do is wait until the last week to start the move. You need to give yourself at least a month or more to get everything in order. During that month, you can look into several moving companies and choose the best. You will also have enough time to transfer utility bills to your new home address. You need time to gather packing supplies and pack things slowly without rushing.

2. Downsize

During the one or two months you have set aside for packing, you will find time to go through every single item in your house and get rid of the stuff you no longer use. This may include old appliances, clothes, shoes, and everything you have been holding onto but never use. Getting rid of this stuff will actually make moving easier. Besides, you don’t need all that stuff.

3. One Room at a Time

This is not only a great way to pack but also an excellent way to simplify unpacking. The idea makes unpacking easy because the boxes from a particular room will go directly to the room they are intended. Pack everything in each room separately and label the boxes. Remember to pack the things you will need on a moving day separately and label them under ‘essential’ or something similar. Each box should indicate the contents in it and which room they belong to.

4. Don’t Unhang Clothes

The process of removing all clothes from hangers, folding them and then hanging them when you get to the new house can be daunting. You can simplify it by just taking the clothes as they are and placing them inside trash bags to protect them from dirt. When you get to your new house, cut open the garbage bag, and hang the clothes again.

5. Get Everyone On Board

You may have a moving company that will help you to pack and unpack. However, this can take a while, especially when moving heavy furniture. Instead, get your entire family and friends to help with the packing and teach them exactly what to do. You can focus on delicate areas like the kitchen and let everyone else do the bedrooms, bathrooms, and garage.

Packing is not an easy task, and it’s not something you can do in a day. Make sure you have a list of everything you are supposed to do as well as a first night box with everything you will need on that first day in your new house.
