The James Corden Show Gets Interesting With Anna Wintour

You Can Say She’s Not A Big Fan Of The Trump Family

Anna Wintour revealed who’s not getting another Met Gala invitation Wednesday on ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden.’ The legendary Vogue editor said President Donald Trump would be banned from the high profile gala that is held annually in New York.

The revelation comes amid a growing tense relationship between the fashion world and the Trump Administration. During New York, Fashion Week designers sent messages of opposition to the administration. Most of them continue to refuse to dress First Lady Melania Trump.

Spilling the beans, shamelessly

There are two things Anna Wintour is not fond of; fast food and President Donald Trump. Wintour left both of them clear during her appearance on ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden.’

During the show, she played ‘Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts‘. Guests have to answer uncomfortable questions or eat disgusting food.

Food options included a bull penis, pickled pigs feet, and a thousand-year-old egg. There were also items like a bacon cheeseburger in a donut, a chili smoothie, and bacon-wrapped pizza.

At one point, Wintour had to choose between taking a bite of pickled pig’s foot or naming the celebrities she would never invite back to the Met Gala. To which Wintour quipped,

“Donald Trump.”

She was also asked to rank designers Tom Ford, Marc Jacob, and Ralph Lauren from best to worst. And she wisely decided to take a bite of the bacon-wrapped pizza.

“It’s covered in grease,” said Wintour after eating.

President Trump has been a frequent guest at the Met Gala since 1980s. It’s pretty clear he won’t be stepping into the hot social event for now on.

Long attending story

The Met Gala is pretty much the highlight of New York’s social calendar.

The Gala’s guest list is hand-picked by Wintour and her organizers. An invitation to the event indicates membership of America’s fashion, celebrity or financial elite.

Anna Wintour took over organizing the event back in 1999. At the time, it was essentially a local fundraiser, held to support the museum’s Costume Institute and attended by the great and the good of New York.

Under Wintour’s watch, it has grown into a celebrity celebration. Almost the equivalent of the Oscars of the East Coast.

This year, individual tickets were priced at $30,000. However, not only is there a waiting list but each sale must still be approved by Anna Wintour herself, in order to maintain the event’s exclusivity.

As for President Donald Trump, he first attended the gala in the mid-80s, accompanied by his then-wife Ivana Trump.

In 1998, he attended with his date Andrea Murray, and then took Melania and Ivanka Trump in 2004. Son-in-law Jared Kushner has had his share of red-carpet time at the gala, too.

President Trump and the Frist Lady Melania Trump have attended the Met Gala a total of nine times between 2004 and 2012. In fact, he proposed to her at the party in 2004.

No secret disdain

Wintour’s answer on ‘The Late Late Show‘ with James Corden’ comes as no surprise considering she’s been pretty vocal about her disdain to Trump and her support of Hilary Clinton.

Vogue took sides for the first time in its history during the 2016 presidential election. It formally endorsed Hillary Clinton. Wintour even served as a fashion consultant on the campaign trail.

Wintour sent an even more loud message via a fashion statement when she wore a T-shirt printed with Clinton’s face during a Marc Jacobs show and a pin supporting Planned Parenthood during New York Fashion Week.

And that’s not it. Even Vogue itself seems to be taking deliberate jabs at Trump and everyone around him, specifically First Lady Melania Trump.

For decades, first ladies have been prominently featured in the magazine, since Herbert Hoover’s wife Lou Henry Hoover in 1929.

More recently, Michelle Obama landed on three covers during her time as First Lady. But for Melania Trump as the first lady, a formal profile has been nowhere to be found, with the magazine instead focusing on writing profiles on political figures like Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand instead.

The most the First Lady Melania Trump has gotten so far are recaps on her fashion choices — some of which have been critical.

Fashion opposition to President Donald Trump

A Vogue cover isn’t the only thing First Lady Melania Trump isn’t getting from the fashion world. Fashion designers have been reluctant to dressing her.

The debate on dressing Trump has deeply divided the fashion community since she became the first lady, and the conversation isn’t ending anytime soon.

The topic has become controversial because while Melania is the first lady and a representative for the United States, President Trump’s policies haven’t exactly won favor with the fashion crowd.

In fact, many designers took New York Fashion Week last season as an opportunity to voice their concerns and opposition to the president. From Planned Parenthood pins to clear messages on the runway.
