‘First Man’: Damien Chazelle’s Next Movie Has New Trailer

Aiming For The Moon… And Another Oscar

Via NDTV

After winning… Well… Many Oscars… Damien Chazelle comes back once more. Working again with Ryan Gosling, this time to tell the story of Neil Armstrong with First Man.

Another way of seeing the facts

Gosling takes off his dancing shoes and takes one giant leap in First Man. Mind the puns. Leaving the musical side for now (La La Land, Whiplash), the 33-year-old filmmaker now aims higher with a biographical space drama about the first man to ever walk the moon. This time from the astronauts’ point of view: what they see, what they hear, what they feel and experience.

Read the official synopsis here:

(…) the riveting story behind the first manned mission to the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the decade leading to the historic Apollo 11 flight. A visceral and intimate account told from Armstrong’s perspective, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the film explores the triumphs and the cost—on Armstrong, his family, his colleagues and the nation itself—of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

Chazelle told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview:

We don’t think about how dangerous that first era of space travel really was. We might know about some of the disasters, but we think largely
in a triumphalist way. We hear trumpets blaring and see the
flag waving and it all looks noble and dignified in a way that
makes it seem easy, like a fait accompli. I wanted to unwind
all of that and make it as scary
and uncertain as it really was.

First Man will come to theaters on October 12. And we know what you’re thinking: “ah what?! Another space movie?!”. But we’ll have to stop you right there. Come on, it’s Damien Chazelle we’re talking about. The guy is a genius, so give him a chance. He certainly knows what he’s doing. We’re sure this movie will be great, like his other films.
