Amy Schumer To Make Broadway Debut In Steve Martin’s Play

Schumer Has Just Announced Her Broadway Debut

Amy Schumer announced her Broadway debut via Instagram on Monday. The actress will star in a play by Steve Martin titled ‘Meteor Shower’ this fall.

Amy who just premiered her comedy ‘Snatched’ along Goldie Hawn, made it to the Forbes’ highest paid comedians, being the only girl on the list.

Broadway, here comes Amy!

Amy Schumer is heading to Broadway to make her anticipated debut in a play of no other than Steve Martin. ‘Meteor Shower’ follows the story of two Californian couples who successfully turn a simple dinner into marital chaos.

A night of food and conversation turns surreal after a couple, Corky and Norm, invite another couple to watch a meteor shower in their yard. The events are set in Ojai, California, in 1993.

The rest of the just-announced cast is pretty impressive, too: Keegan-Michael Key of ‘Key and Peele’ making his Broadway debut. Also,  Broadway veteran Laura Benanti and Alan Tudyk of ‘Rogue One‘. None of those names were involved with the show’s premiere co-production at the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven and the Old Globe in San Diego last year.

The director is Jerry Zaks, who was nominated for a Tony award earlier this year for ‘Hello, Dolly!’ starring Bette Midler. This follows Steve Martin’s first musical ‘Bright Star’, which earned five Tony nominations, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.

Martin tweeted praise for Meteor Shower’s “impeccable cast” before joking: “Just think, we can all love each other until the first day of rehearsal!”

‘Meteor Shower’ will begin previews Nov. 1 at New York’s Booth Theatre, with opening night on Nov. 29.

What Schumer has been up to

Amy Schumer is definitely a busy girl with projects all over the place.

She’s currently on the silver screen alongside Goldie Hawn, in the comedy-action ‘Snatched‘. The mother-daughter holiday-from-hell adventure has already grossed $45 million domestically. Schumer is also set to feature in the military biopic ‘Thank You For Your Service,’ by filmmaker Jason Hall, alongside Miles Teller.

She has also completed work on Universal Studios’ ‘She Came To Me.’ Which also features Steve Carrell and Nicole Kidman. Amy is currently shooting ‘I Feel Pretty,’ a comedy written and directed by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein.  She’s also set to produce it.

The movie follows an ordinary woman who struggles with feelings of insecurity and inadequacy on a daily basis, played by Amy. But suddenly, she wakes from a fall believing she is suddenly the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet.

Michelle Williams, Rafe Spall and Emily Ratajkowski have been cast in ‘I Feel Pretty.’

‘I Feel Pretty’ is scheduled to release on June 29, 2018. The same day as ‘Barbie‘ starring Anne Hathaway. Amy was attached to star in Sony’s ‘Barbie’ before committing to ‘I Feel Pretty.’

Not only she’s at the top of her career but at the top of Forbes

Amy Schumer has done it again, she topped the Forbes list of highest paid comedians, for the second year in a row. Last month, Forbes revealed the names of the world’s highest-paid comedians for 2017, and the ‘Snatched’ star landed at No. 5 on the list.

Out of 10 comedians, Amy is the only woman to make the list for the second year in a row, after becoming the first woman ever to be named among the top-paid comedians in 2016.

Amy has definitely made her way to the top. Not only she has starred in various movies, has her own stand-up special with Netflix titled ‘Amy Schumer: The Leather Special’, a book titled ‘The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo’ as well as deals with brands like Old Navy and Bud Light.

All of those ventures added to her earnings for this year, totaling at a whopping $37.5 million.

Last year she came in a spot higher in fourth place with a reported $17 million in income, and the comedian made $20 million more in 2017 to secure the fifth spot on the list.

While her achievements are impressive, she is still only surrounded by men on the list, despite Hollywood being full of other successful women comedians like Melissa McCarthy, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler.

Others who did make the list are comedic giants like Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Louis C.K., Kevin Hart and Jerry Seinfeld, who came in at No. 1 with an estimated income of $69 million.

Forbes reported that they create their list based on the comedians’ touring numbers, television and film projects, endorsements and other business deals.
