Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj joined forces for a brand new single called ‘Swish Swish,’ and fans are speculating that the house-inspired song is a Taylor Swift diss track.
Here’s the song:
The Perry-Swift feud just opened new chapter. Perry’s new single – which is said to be addressed to Taylor Swift – features rapper Nicki Minaj – who has also had some trouble with Swift in the past, when she spoke about the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for video of the year,” Minaj tweeted by the time, referring to “Bad Blood” being nominated while the “Anaconda” video was looked over. The feud didn’t go any further than that, and the two later performed together at the awards show.
Perry’s new song then would be kind of come back at Swift’s “Bad Blood,” which came out in 2014 as a hint on Perry, who “tried to sabotage an entire arena tour” by hiring Swift’s backup dancers for her ‘Prismatic World Tour.’ Although Swift never specified who the track was about, fans assumed it was about Perry, and sources later confirmed it.
Now, the “Wildest Dream” singer released her new song, in which she sings, “A tiger / Don’t lose no sleep / Don’t need opinions / From a shellfish or a sheep / Don’t you come for me / No, not today / You’re calculated / I got your number / ‘Cause you’re a joke / And I’m a courtside killer queen.”
A couple of weeks ago, Perry was asked in an interview with Entertainment Weekly if there would be a response to “Bad Blood” in her upcoming new album ‘Witness’. The singer replied, “I think [my new album] is a very empowered record. There is no one thing that’s calling out any one person.”
“One thing to note is: You can’t mistake kindness for weakness and don’t come for me. Anyone. Anyone. Anyone,” she continued. “And that’s not to any one person and don’t quote me that it is because it’s not. It’s not about that. Honestly, when women come together and they decide to unite, this world is going to be a better place. Period, end of story.”
“But let me say this,” she concluded. “Everything has a reaction or a consequence, so don’t forget about that, OK, honey. We got to keep it real, honey. This record is not about anyone else! This record is about me being seen and heard so that I can see and hear everyone else! It’s not even about me! It’s about everything that I see out there that I digest. I think there’s a healing in it for me and vulnerability. If people want to connect and be healed and feel vulnerable and feel empowered and strong, God bless and here it is.”
Ruby Rose had some things to say to Perry after hearing the song
Although no one has confirmed – or denied – if “Swish Swish” is an actual diss track towards Taylor Swift, everyone is assuming it is, including ‘Orange Is The New Black’ actress Ruby Rose.
Rose, who’s an outspoken member of the Swift squad, took Twitter to give her humble opinion on Perry and her new single. “‘Purposeful poop’ to ‘bomb a petit’ to a sloppy mess of writing over the top of Funkagenda..stop trying to make “Wit..I mean ‘fetch’ happen,” she wrote on Thursday night.
“I just think with everything going on in the world to go from rebranding as political activist only to ditch it and go low.. Is.. A bummer,” she continued.
Rose is not mad at Nicki, though. A fan asked her on a tweet to not bring Minaj into the drama, and the model replied, “Not gonna lie Nicki is great on it and basically the only part that doesn’t sound a mess.”
