Grammy Awards 2018 Nomination List Brings Great Surprises

The Grammys Will Air January 28th, 2018 On NBC

The 2018 Grammy Awards nominations were announced Tuesday, bringing big surprises and notorious absences. Singer Andra Day made the anticipated revelation for the 60th Gramm Awards.

The Grammys will air January 28th, 2018, on NBC. The 60th Grammy will mark the first Grammy broadcast in New York city since 2003. For the past 14 years, the star-studded ceremony has been held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The nominees are…

Andra Day was nominated for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance in 2016, revealed the nominees for the 60th Grammy Awards on ‘CBS This Morning.’

The singer unveiled this year’s nominees in the four main “General Field” categories, which include Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Album Of The Year.

Jay-Z ‘4:44’ leads the pack with eight nominations, while Kendrick Lamar earned an impressive seven nods for his ‘Damn’ album.

Singer Bruno Mars scored six nominations, including Record of The Year. Following closely behind are Childish Gambino, Khalid, SZA and No I.D, who each earned five nods in a variety of categories.

Comedian James Corden is set to take once again his role a host of the prestigious event for the second year in a row.

Corden first appeared as host last year, replacing LL Cool J, who had presented the Grammy Awards from 2012 through 2016.

Last year marked Adele becoming the first artist in history to win all three general field awards in the same ceremony twice.

The singer won five trophies overall on the night but notably claimed Album of the Year should have been given to Beyonce instead.

First-round voting took place between October 16 and 29, while final-round voting will take place between December 7 and 21.

Next year’s Grammys will be the 60th in its history.

Absence and surprises

In shocking news, Harry Styles solo album didn’t get any Grammy nod.

The album was helmed by 2016 Grammy Producer of the Year Jeff Bhasker and won over critics and seemed like catnip to Grammy voters of a certain age, however, it didn’t make it to the anticipated list.

Also, Ed Sheeran long-anticipated musical return just landed two nominations, contrary to what was expected. The same happened to Lorde’s ‘Melodrama’ that nabbed Album of the Year nomination but strangely didn’t nab any other nods.

A previously announced absence is Drake who decided not to submit his album for the ceremony in recent months. And Taylor Swift whose ‘Reputation‘ album didn’t make it to the eligibility date.
