Fear The Walking Dead Returns To Our Screens With More Action

AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead, Returns Stronger Than Ever And We Can’t Wait

As summer arrives, ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ returns. The sister show to AMC’s The Walking Dead premiered its third season on Sunday. This time the story straddles the border between the United States and Mexico, taking real life into fiction.

Fear The Walking Dead

Fear the Walking Dead is somewhat a strange spin-off to the original The Walking Dead. Usually. spin off carry on the original’s legacy. But Fear the Walking Dead runs alongside the original story, but with a whole new cast and storyline.

The spin-off has seen its rating decline dramatically and yet has managed to remain one of the best-rated shows. However, this might change now and people might notice how great the show actually is. Season five and six of the original show were tough competition for the spin-off. But season seven has been a rough one for The Walking Dead, with the lowest ratings in the show’s history. One definite advantage of Fear the Walking Dead is the ability to do whatever it wants free from the constraints of the source material, and the show is up to do that.

This season will consist of 16 episodes, which started on Sunday, June 4. And there’s more Fear the Walking Dead to come as AMC already announced a Season 4 happening.

Sunday night’s premiere of Fear the Walking Dead started off by giving viewers the answer to last season’s cliffhanger. Where did Nick and Luciana end up? That’s the question you were left sitting with the last time you laid eyes on the rather scattered members of this once tight-knit group. Season 3 is all set to give answers and surprises. However, let’s try not to spoil that much and let’s talk in general terms of what’s to come.

What can we expect from this new season?

Fear the Walking Dead usually moves pretty quickly and so do characters. The show has already explored some pretty interesting places. From LA right when the outbreak started to a boat on open water, to Mexican ranches and villages and luxury hotels. This time, the show takes place at the now pretty much meaningless Mexican-US border.

Familiar political tensions seem to be the motivation for the family’s preparation for society’s collapse. And the location is a major character in the show, the importance of the ranch the group will be moving cannot be overstated enough.

The location itself serves a dual meaning, though. While filmed in Mexico, the ranch is meant to be located on the U.S. side of the border. An idea that will come into play heavily in the new season. Among other major things to come, there are new faces joining the cast, including a new clan. The Otto clan, which the Clarks will turn into in future episodes, are quite interesting.

You’ll see, most of the characters in ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ are navigating and surviving the zombie apocalypse as complete neophytes. However, that’s not the Ottos case, they’re a little bit different. Led by patriarch Jeremiah, the Otto family have been preparing for a societal collapse for decades, making them uniquely suited to survive in a world plagued by zombies.

According to AMC’s character description, Jeremiah is “a patriotic border militiaman who railed against the region’s cartel violence and illegal immigration.”

And as new faces emerge, old faces make a return

Such is the case of Daniel Salazar, played by Ruben Blades, who comes back after supposedly burned along with the barn in the first season. Daniel’s return had been teased for a while, and now is the time. Executive producer David Erickson revealed that even when Daniel didn’t die in the fire, his absence was necessary for the development of other characters.

“And I think what was always important is that the characters, specifically Ofelia (Mercedes Mason), thought they had lost him,” Erickson explained.

According to Erickson, this new season is seen through a political lens. The producer calls it a “very much a border season“, and also notes that “things about this season is that it is very much about the appropriation of land and culture.”

Danay García has also dropped a few tidbits about the upcoming season from the perspective of her character, Lucy.  While in Season 2, she was the local and the Americans the foreigners, this time they switch places. “I have to follow somebody else’s rules. It will be interesting. That’s something that every immigrant goes through,” she said.
