More A-list drama coming up. The actress will star in the leading role in the film version of another of Moriarty’s bestsellers, The Husband’s Secret.
We definitely have the Moriarty fever. Rumors of a second season of Big Little Lies keep growing, and now Blake’s film coming up.
Just signed up for the Moriarty treatment
Following the huge success of Liane Moriarty’s New York Times bestseller Big Little Lies, another studio took on another one of her hits and is bringing an adaptation.
On Thursday, CBS Films announced Blake Lively will star in the film adaptation of The Husband’s Secret. And just like Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, she’s also serving as executive producer of the film.
The book was published by Amy Einhorn Books in 2013 and quickly climbed to No. 1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list.
In The Husband’s Secret, Blake will portray Cecilia Fitzpatrick, a busy suburban wife, and mother whose perfect life is threatened when she uncovers a secret her husband has been hiding for years.
Apparently, she comes across a letter from her husband with instructions to open it upon his death. She then learns of — yes — a secret of her husband’s that brings to light the lies her life is built upon.
The discovery leads Cecilia to realize her life has been built on both lies and murder
Blake is the perfect fit
Blake is just perfect for the role according to CBS Films President Terry Press. “Blake Lively’s unique combination of vulnerability, strength, and extraordinary talent makes her the perfect actress to realize Moriarty’s creation,” he said.
The Husband’s Secret, the characters are Australian, given that the author is an Australian writer. However, Big Little Lies was uprooted from Australian for its film treatment, landing in picturesque Monterey, California. So, details on if we’re about to get the same treatment or if we’ll get to hear Blake’s Aussie accent are yet to be unveiled as more information about the production goes public.
Mark Ross and Alex Ginno will be overseeing The Husband’s Secret for CBS Films. Despite the bid auction on Moriarty’s books and stories taking over Hollywood, the production company has already acquired the rights to Moriarty’s book in 2013. Even before HBO picked up her other work, “Big Little Lies,” for television.
Lively starred in Woody Allen’s “Cafe Society,” “All I See is You” — which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival — and “The Shallows” last year. The latter surprised at the box office with $119 million worldwide on a $17 million budget.
Are we having more of “little lies”?
Is pretty awesome knowing that another book from the Australian author is being adapted to television. However, we can’t help but wonder if we’re seeing more of the Monterey wives.
Liane Moriarty has established herself as one of the defining voices of the modern woman and we all got pretty hooked with HBO miniseries Big Little Lies.
The series was incredibly successful. They portrayed a unique view of relationships and domestic violence. The great narrative and the incredible cast made it happen.
Big Little Lies was helmed by an all-star cast of Kidman, Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgård and Adam Scott
Since we’re talking about the cast, let’s mention the sure-thing Emmy nomination for Nicole Kidman for her portrayal on the series.
On the series, Kidman was in an abusive relationship which often made uncomfortable viewing, but it sure made people connect with a vulnerable side and became a cultural hit.
During a Variety interview, the actress said people would reach out to talk to her about the really complicated relationship. “I obviously understand it. I’m able to talk about it in complex detail. It’s so based in shame, and the desire to protect her husband and family,” she said.
The second season
Rumors and anticipation over a second season of the show have been non-stop. And the cast has done a pretty good work on raising our excitement about it possibly happening.
Actress Laura Dern said, “There’s talk” when talked about it. While Reese Witherspoon has not denied the rumors on different interviews.
In fact, Reese Witherspoon just added more fire to the growing “season two happening” rumor. She posted a behind-the-scenes picture of her with co-stars Dern and Nicole Kidman with the caption, “working on some new lies”.
This is just as saying that is totally happening! We just need to find out when, how and where is happening.
