Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez And More Artists Will Play At Tidal Relief Concert

The Annual Tidal X Concert Is Raising Money For Hurricane Relief

Jay-Z and Jennifer Lopez are set to headline Tidal’s concert on October 17 in Brooklyn. Earlier this month, Jay-Z announced the annual Tidal X concert would help raise money this year for hurricane relief.

Also performing in the upcoming show are Fifth Harmony, Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Iggy Azalea and more. Following the devastating hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, artists came together to help those in need in the best way they can.

Tidal relief efforts concert

Rap mogul Jay-Z and pop superstar Jennifer Lopez will headline a concert in New York. Aiming to raise funds for survivors of hurricanes that have devastated the United States and the Caribbean.

Tidal, the streaming service led by Jay-Z, announced on Wednesday the line-up of the show. It will take place on October 17 in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center arena.

Jennifer Lopez, born in New York to parents from Puerto Rico, recently donated US$1 million to relief for Hurricane Maria. The hurricane brought catastrophic damage to the island’s electricity and other infrastructure.

The concert’s hip-hop-heavy lineup will also feature rappers DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Joey Bada$$, Belly, Iggy Azalea, Vic Mensa and Daddy Yankee — the Puerto Rican rapper who was part of the viral global hit ‘Despacito.’

Performers of other genres include the electronic artist Kaskade, R&B singer Chris Brown and pop group Fifth Harmony.

Angie Martinez will host the charity showcase and Rosie Perez and Lin-Manuel Miranda will make guest appearances.

New York Governor thanks deeply TIDAL’s help

New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo shared his thoughts on TIDAL’s assistance in the wake of such loss.

“After seeing the terrible devastation in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands firsthand, it is clear that those affected by these natural disasters need our help more than ever, he said.

“We in New York are putting the full weight of our resources behind recovery efforts. I am grateful to TIDAL X: Brooklyn and its sponsors for joining us and helping to deliver much-needed goods to people in desperate need.”

We must do everything we can to help these communities rebuild. I encourage all New Yorkers to join us in our efforts,” Cuomo added.

Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, which all carried monstrous ferocity, battered the Caribbean and parts of the United States in quick succession starting last month.

Jay-Z’s wife Beyonce, who recently gave birth to twins and is not scheduled to perform, earlier promised long-term help for her hometown Houston as it rebuilds from Harvey.

Helping in the best way they can

Pitbull generously offered aid to Puerto Rico after the devastation from Hurricane Maria wiped out power through the entire island.

On Tuesday, Puerto Rico Congresswoman Jenniffer González tweeted her thanks to the rapper. She said, “Thank you @pitbull for lending your private plane to move cancer patients from PR to the USA so that they can get chemo.”

Pitbull later responded to praise in a statement to The Daily News. “Thank God we’re blessed to help. Just doing my part,” he explained.

This is not the first big act of charity from Pitbull. In 2013, he opened a public charter school – The Sports Leadership And Management Academy – in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. He plans to open a second school next year in Baltimore.

Many other artists have also urged people to donate to Puerto Rico hurricane efforts. Ricky Martin has set up his own YouCaring crowdfunding page to collect donations. Jennifer Lopez donated $1 million and partnered with ex-husband Marc Anthony for additional relief efforts.

Sorry, not sorry

Just days after vocalizing his allegiance with Colin Kaepernick, Jay-Z has reportedly turned down an invitation to perform at the NFL’s 2018 Super Bowl according to reports.

On Tuesday, news broke that the NFL extended an offer to Hov to perform during the coveted slot, but the godfather of young Black men apparently wanted no parts.

The NFL hasn’t denied the claims.

“No decisions have been made on the performer(s) and we are not going to speculate on particular artists,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement to ProFootballTalk.

“Along with Pepsi, we know that we will put on a spectacular show. When it is time to announce her name we will do it. Or his name. Or their names.”

ProFootballTalk claims there have also been allegations that the NFL expects a rather hefty percentage from ticket sales when the chosen performer is a high-profile act.

But Beyonce’s hubby has regularly aligned himself with issues of racial inequality and other social causes. Particularly criminal justice reform so it’s possible his refusal was done as a show of solidarity with Kaepernick.

The news comes just days after President Trump’s Alabama comments regarding NFL players refusing to take the knee during the national anthem caused outrage by fans. Following Trump’s comments, athletes from different sports made a gesture of solidarity to Kaepernick.
