Launching a fundraising

Shawn Mendes announced on Friday that he’s teaming up with Red Cross to raise funds and awareness for those affected by the recent catastrophic earthquake in Mexico.

The earthquake has caused the deaths of over 200, with additional hundreds left injured and without homes.

Mendes was in Mexico City when the earthquake hit the city while on tour. After witnessing the destruction firsthand, he decided to get involved.

“After seeing the impact of the damage firsthand in Mexico, I wanted to find any way I could to raise funds,” said Mendes in a press release.

“So we reached out to the Red Cross and partnered with them to set up a way to help those affected by the earthquake.”

“While I canceled my concert out of respect and for safety, being there during this tragedy and seeing the devastation firsthand made me want to do whatever I could to help those impacted by this tragedy,” he wrote on a fund-raising page where he invited fans to contribute.

The campaign will raise funds on CrowdRise, a crowdsourcing site that’s part of GoFundMe. Mendes and his management company AG Artists already donated $100,000, and are counting on fans to help out further.
