Met Gala 2017: Which Celebrities Looked Awful At The Fashion Gala?

There’s A Dress Code For A Reason You Guys..

The 2017 Met Gala, held on Monday, honored designer Rei Kawakubo and her brand Comme des Garçons. Kawakubo is known for her avant-garde designs and peculiar sense of style, that has inspired almost every name in fashion these days. As every year, attendees were encouraged to dress according to the theme, being this year “Art of the In-Between.” Since Kawakubo is a boundary-pushing designer, we were all expecting some boundary-pushing looks, even if that meant that someone could trip on the try.

Things turned out to be disappointing. Some celebrities missed the “avant-garde” queue and chose some pretty dang boring outfits, or whatever suited their bodies better. Others completely missed the point and made some terrible choices.

“Fashion’s biggest night out” ended up being just another red carpet, with exceptional cases like Rihanna or Katy Perry, who totally evoked Kawakubo’s intentions and efforts to erase the line between fashion and art for the past 50 years. The Barbados singer rocked a petal-covered confection from Comme des Garçons’ 2017 couture line. Perry had a bigger responsibility since she was one of the co-chairs of the soiree, so she went all the way with a creation from Maison Margiela titled “Artisinal,” an eccentric suit consisting of God-knows-how-many layers of red tulle, and a veiled headpiece.

Cara Delevingne, Solange Knowles, and Helen Lasichanh also understood the theme of the gala. Others, well, just didn’t. Take a look at the 2017 Met Gala’s worst dressed celebrities.

5. Thandie Newton

We can say that at least she tried. The dress is o.k., I guess. The Swarovski crystals studded in it are a nice detail. But what happened with that giant flower on her head? There are millions of other ways to approach a headpiece, c’mon…

4. Sofia Sanchez Barrenechea

She’s a fashion consultant that needs a fashion consultant. We know the theme was “avant-garde”, but what is really magic about Rei Kawakubo is that she know how to make the extravagant beautiful and elegant. This outfit doesn’t get any of that.

3. Kendall Jenner

We know how stunning Kendall Jenner’s body is. We really encourage that she shows it off. But why do it all the time? Especially during a ceremony in which the outfits were supposed to be risky and bold. She and her sister opted for her usual naked-dress look, you know, their comfort zone. Kendall’s dress is from lingerie brand La Perla. Yes, she looks amazing, but it is totally misplaced.

2. Wiz Khalifa

The rapper kept on with his red-carpet script: wearing a suit while holding something illegal. At the Met Gala, he wore a cartoonish Thom Browne white suit, with black details, and matching boots. A total bore.

1. Madonna

Madonna’s pick this year was just bizarre. She was wearing a camouflage-printed Moschino gown, with a camo net over her shoulders like a boa. This, plus the black gloves, and all that jewelry, and what appears to be a water bottle… This is wrong. So wrong.
