Jennifer Aniston is returning to the small screen along with Reese Witherspoon. According to reports, the two actresses, are teaming up for an untitled TV drama about morning shows and New York.
While this would mark a huge comeback for Aniston, Reese Witherspoon made her small screen debut earlier this year in ‘Big Little Lies’ which was a success.
Taking on the small screens
According to The Hollywood Reporter, real life friends Reese Witherspoon and Jenifer Aniston are planning on taking the small screen with a drama series yet untitled.
The series will reportedly explore TV morning shows and the New York media scene, with Aniston and Witherspoon starring.
The pair previously starred together in 2000 on ‘Friends.’ Witherspoon played Aniston’s Rachel spoiled little sister, Jill. Aniston and Witherspoon’s scenes together were priceless, but they never joined forces after their two-episode arc.
Not only the project will have an A-list of cast members, but quite a packed crew.
Michael Ellenberg, former HBO head of drama, is helming the project, while Jay Carson of ‘House of Cards’ will write the script and executive produce the show. ‘Harry Potter’ screenwriter Steve Kloves will serve as an executive producer.
In addition to starring in the show, Aniston and Witherspoon will both be executive producers on the untitled series.
The package is expected to be offered to premium cable networks like HBO and streaming services like Netflix.
The announcement comes on the heels of Witherspoon’s Emmy nomination for her role in ‘Big Little Lies,’ which gained critical acclaim and is in talks for a second season.
Jennifer Aniston makes a comeback
The series would mark Jennifer’s first return to the small screen since ‘Friends’. The TV classic wrapped up more than a decade ago, in 2004.
The actress has focused on films, instead, starring in movies like ‘Marley & Me,’ ‘Horrible Bosses,’ ‘We’re The Millers,’ and ‘Office Chrismas Party.’ And more recently, in Alexandre Moors’ ‘The Yellow Birds,’ which premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
However, the actress has made guest appearances on shows like ’30 Rock’ and ‘Cougar Town.’
In January, Aniston said she was open to returning to TV.
She said that she’s “thought about it a lot. That’s where the work is. That’s where the quality is. At this point in my career, I want to be part of wonderful stories, exciting characters, and also just having a good time.”
Aniston earned five Emmy nominations and won one for her role as Rachel Green on ‘Friends’.
