J.K. Rowling casually revealed on Twitter that the screenplay for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel is done.
A fan sent a tweet to the author – who made her screenwriting debut last year with the first installment of Fantastic Beasts – asking whether the screenplay was finished. Rowling responded that the script was done, but she didn’t reveal much more.
While Potterheads had to say goodbye to the Boy Who Lived in 2011 with ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ bringing the movie series to an end, it didn’t take much time for the magic world to return to the screens. Last year ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ was released, telling the story of Newt Scamander – played by Eddie Redmayne –, a magician living in New York City in 1926. Now the sequel of the story is in the works.
Fantastic Beasts 2 will start production this summer
Months ago, it was announced that the sequel to the new J.K. Rowling’s saga will start production later this year in the U.K. and France. And while the author didn’t say much – anything, actually– about the new film, we do know some details.
Back in November, ‘Fantastic Beasts’ director, David Yates, shared days before the movie premiered that the sequel will be set and shot in Paris, meaning that the film will explore the magic world hidden in the French capital.
Part of the cast was also revealed. According to reports, British actor Callam Turner is set to star in the sequel as the brother of the main character, Scamander. Zoë Kravitz is said to have signed to come back again as Leta Lestrange. By now, she’s the only star confirmed to return to the saga.
The upcoming film will deepen on some characters
In an interview, Kravitz teased that Lestrange will play a larger role in the sequel. She shared that there may or may not be a potential romantic relationship between her and Scamander. By now, nothing is sure, but there are three more films ahead for a total of five, so literally, anything could happen.
According to some reports, the upcoming movie could reveal more details about Dumbledore’s sexuality. Rowling said a time before that she will be exploring throughout the films the relationship between Albus Dumbledore – who will be played by Jude Law, according to some reports – and Gellert Grindelwald – character described as “a dark wizard who was once a friend of Dumbledore,” and will be portrayed by Johnny Depp.
The Warner Bros. film is set to be released on November 16, 2018.
