The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual event best known as Coachella. It’s held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
Founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999, the festival’s origins trace back to 1993 when Pearl Jam performed at the Empire Polo Club while boycotting venues controlled by Ticketmaster. Which validated the site’s viability to held large events.
The inaugural Coachella Festival was held over the course of two days in October 1999. In the year 2000 there was no festival and then in 2001, it came back on an annual basis beginning in April 2001.
The event features musical events, that gather many musical genres from rock to EDM, as well as art installations and sculptures.
There are several stages across the grounds hosting live music. The main ones are Coachella Stage, Outdoor Theatre, Gobi Tent, Mojave Tent, and Sahara Tent. Recently the Yuma stage was inaugurated and this year the Sonora stage was also introduced.
This year the festival came back for good with a bigger umber of attendees. After receiving approval of an expansion Coachella augmented its capacity from 99,000 to 125,000. So get ready to see more flower-crowned girls and tanned bodies.
