Meryl Streep, Colin Firth And Amanda Seyfried Are Returning With Ol Parker Directing

Cher is starring the ‘Mamma Mia!’ sequel. The legend confirmed the news with a series of Tweets over the weekend. ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!’ will hit theaters next summer.

The silver screen isn’t the only Cher will take on next year, as a stage musical based on her life, ‘The Cher Show’ is set to debut in Chicago next year.

Cher is the ultimate secret weapon

Anticipation for the ‘Mamma Mia’ sequel was already high, but now eager fans of the movie have something extra to look forward too, and that’s Cher as part of the movie’s cast. However, her role remains totally hush-hush.

Academy Award-winning actress Cher joined the cast for the upcoming musical sequel to the 2008 smash hit, and she let us know in the most Cher way.

During the weekend, the diva took to Twitter to share several messages hinting her participation in the anticipated movie.

As if saying, “Well… I’m in Momma Mia 2” wasn’t enough to build some enthusiasm, she then wrote “FERNANDO” with a thinking emoji in reference to the Abba song.

Continuing on the hints game, she graced us with a picture of the groovy boots her character is using in the movie and also said a musical number went just fine.

‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’ will mark Cher’s first movie role since she appeared alongside Christina Aguilera in 2010’s ‘Burlesque’.

The movie will also mark the second film she’s made with Meryl Streep, as the two previously acted together in 1983’s ‘Silkwood’ — a movie that earned both women Oscar nods.

Here we go again!

The sequel to the 2008 film was confirmed not so long ago, and it’s already moving fast.

In September, the movie began shooting in the U.K. and Croatia. According to reports, the movie goes back and forth in time to show how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present.

And to play the character’s young versions are Lily James as young Donna. Alexa Davies and Jessica Keenan Wynn playing young versions of Rosie and Tanya respectively. Jeremy Irvine playing young Sam, Josh Dylan as young Bill, and Hugh Skinner as young Harry.

Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Amanda Seyfried, and Christine Baranski are returning, with Ol Parker writing and directing.

The original 2008 film was a surprise blockbuster, grossing more than $600 million worldwide. ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!’ hits theaters on July 20, 2018.
