Mariah Carey’s many hip hop collaborations will be celebrated at the 2017 VH1 Hip Hop Honors on September 17th. VH1 broke the news on Monday and also announced the event will be aired on September 18th.
Meanwhile, the singer is getting ready to release an animated film based on her ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ on November 14.
Celebrating the game-changer diva
Mariah Carey is a five-time Grammy winner who has sold millions of records. Now the R&B songstress is preparing to be celebrated at the 2017 VH1 Hip Hop Honors for her contribution to rap music.
VH1 announced on Monday, September 11th that the 47-year-old would be recognized at Hip Hop Honors: The 90’s Game Changers. It will celebrate key moments from television and film, album releases and music videos.
Throughout her illustrious career, which has spanned nearly three decades, Carey worked with some of the biggest names in hip hop. She has collaborations and remixes with Jay Z, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Busta Rhymes, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Nas, Snoop Dogg and Diddy.
The event is scheduled to take place on September 17th at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, California. It’ll air the following day.
Carey Will Not Be The Only Honoree
Aside from Carey, revered comedian and actor Martin Lawrence will also serve as an honoree for this year’s Hip Hop Honors.
The ‘Bad Boys’ star Martin Lawrence was previously named as one of this year’s honorees thanks to the success of his popular self-titled sitcom, Martin. It ran from 1992 to 1997.
The event will be hosted by actress Regina Hall, who made a massive splash this year with her star-studded movie ‘Girls Trip’.
On the performance side, Missy Elliott will grace the stage after being a spectator last year when she, Lil’ Kim, Queen Latifah and Salt-N-Pepa were honored for their careers.
The TV special, which VH1 said is honoring hip-hop’s foray into pop culture, will also “recognize the victims of the hurricanes and provide viewers with ways to take action to help.”
Hurricane Harvey killed 63 people and left 30,000 people homeless, back in August. At least 27 people have also been killed after Irma raged westward from Antigua to Cuba, destroying several small islands. The death toll continues to rise as the powerful storm hit Florida on Sunday morning.
Carey has earned acclaim in all facets of her career as an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. As the best-selling female artist of all time, with more than 220 million records sold and eighteen #1 singles–the most for any solo artist in history–Carey is the definition of a game changer.
‘All I Want For Chrismas Is You’ getting its own animated film
The animated film based on Carey’s holiday hit will be released on November 14.

‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ features a new original song by Mariah Carey and includes 2 other holiday hits besides the titular song. The movie comes out on November 14 in Blu-Ray, DVD, and online streaming.
