2016 was a tough year.

This year has been one crazy ride. We lost some, we witnessed the biggest plot twists ever and even shared moments of despair. But as everything, it had ups and downs. One of those ups were definitely TV shows, which brought joy and comfort to our lives.

This year delivered shows pretty different to what we’re used to, that turned out to be a breath of fresh air. With funny situations, touching dramas and the celebration of differences, this year’s shows were both original and good. Revivals, new series, crazy stories. This year had it all when it comes to shows.

10. Younger.

The story that premiered in 2015, follows the life of a 40-year-old woman who poses as a 26-year-old to give her career a boost.After her husband left her and her daughter with financial problems. You may wonder the appealing of a series that portraits this double life, but the show explores an emotional ground that might surprise you.

Plus: The beautiful clothes and the many gorgeous men that featured in it are a great treat.

9. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

The title totally suits the series. This entertaining show is pretty surprising. The comedy that all of the sudden turns into a musical performance follows the life of a busy NYC lawyer who drops it all and moves to California to see if she stands a chance with her ex-boyfriend. This one feels like a breath of fresh air.

8. Lovesick.

The British comedy will definitely gain a place in your heart. The fact that is not about hipster kids is a breath of fresh air. Also, the story has it all love, time traveling and a fine portrait of adulthood. Lovesick follows the story of Dylan who has to go through all his sexual partners once he learns he got chlamydia. Of course, it also follows the lives of his friends that get more complex and complex as the show goes on.

7. Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life.

The revival that came to fill our lives with joy, was long expected since Netflix first announced it. With emotional moments and situations that faced the characters to life itself, the revival didn’t disappoint. Plus, seeing the Gilmore Girls once again was the greatest gifts of all.

6. Madam Secretary.

The show that follows the struggle of its main character, Elizabeth McCord, to balance her family and her work as the US Secretary of State showed all year long the importance of valuable and working people in statal positions.

5. Insecure.

The HBO original comedy based on Issa Rae’s web series “Awkward Black Girl” was a success this year. Following the awkward experiences and racy tribulation of modern African American woman. With awesome characters well built, the series shows one of the most empathetic friendships on TV.

4. Good Girls Revolt.

The show is an ode to change and causes worth fighting for. Based on true events, the show follows the story of a group of researchers women who sued the magazine for the right to become reporters. Nothing like the portrayal of empowering women working together.

3. Atlanta.

This show is pure magic. Unraveling the human existence itself the show follows the life of two cousins in their daily life in Atlanta trying to get in the rap scene. The magnificent performance of Donald Glover caught you at once. Second chances and finding our way were never portrayed so beautifully.

2. Fleabag.

The struggle of a twenty-something to deal with the painful memories of her best friend’s lost is as dark as funny. The performance of Phoebe Waller-Bridge completes the perfectness of the show, that is definitely one of the rawest shows of the year, but equally beautiful. Totally worth watching.

This show is an undeniable portrait of family dynamics and personal struggles. Following the lives of people who are connected by the same birthday date, the show delivers a beautiful and insight view of people’s connections and our similarities and differences, only to celebrate both of them.
