Congratulations are in order for Patton Oswalt and actress Meredith Salenger. On Thursday, the couple shared the happy news of their engagement via social media. The news was confirmed by Patton’s rep. The announcement came 15 months after the tragic death of his wife.

Fun, jokes and rocks

On Thursday, the couple took to social media to share the happy news of their engagement, and it was as fun as you’d expect.

Salenger posted on her Instagram page a selfie of her and Oswalt, with an image of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in his WWE pose photoshopped on her hand. “Don’t wanna brag… but check out the size of The Rock on my finger! Hahahah (photoshop via@edwardderuiter),” she wrote.

Later on Thursday, she shared a collage of photos from the sweet proposal on her Instagram. The pictures showed Patton, Meredith and his 8-year-old daughter Alice smiling and hugging.

And, ever the funnyman, Patton joked of the proposal on Twitter: “I put the ring in a marzipan Slave replica and said, ‘Will you be my Padawan of Love?’ She maced me but said yes later.”

The couple met through a mutual friend and went public last month, posing hand-in-hand at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Baby Driver‘ and cozying up on the carpet for the ‘Preacher Season 2’ premiere.

The wedding date is yet to be announced. Congratulations to the happy couple.

Celebrating life

The couple’s happy news comes just 15 months after Oswalt’s wife Michelle McNamara died unexpectedly in her sleep in April 2016. Leaving the comedian to care for their 8-year-old daughter, Alice Rigney.

“Michelle brought me nothing but happiness,” he wrote this past April, on the one-year anniversary of her passing. “One year in. Another year starting. It’s awful, but it’s not fatal.”

The ‘Veep actor said officials attributed her death to a mixture of prescription medications and an undetected heart condition.Oswalt has been open about his grieving process, writing a number of moving essays about coping with loss and being a single father to daughter Alice.

“It’s 102 days later and I can confidently say I have reached a point where I’m crawling. Which, objectively, is an improvement,” he wrote in an emotionally raw Facebook post last August. “Maybe 102 days later I’ll be walking.”

For Oswalt, the relationship marks a new beginning following the loss of his wife, judging by the happy posts on both his and Salenger’s Twitter and Instagram feeds, their relationship seems to have had a very positive impact on them both.
