Pixar is without a doubt one of the main forces in the world regarding animation. As they perfectly know how to play with our emotions while giving it warmhearted twists that will make us drop tears at the end of each movie. All of this as they explore several themes. One of their most iconic movies in recent times is Cars, and this year will release its third movie.
But this new release of “Cars 3” has had more buzz than the average Pixar movie. Since the first trailer, they released of the movie had a very dark tone set up. Showing us a crashing McQueen and saying us that “from now on everything will change”. Then another trailer showing us that a “next generation of cars” are coming. Presenting to us a faster, stronger and more effective generation, as we see the new McQueen’s rival on the film.
Third trailer for the third movie
The movie arrives with a lot of expectation. Since the last film “Cars 2,” was not so beloved for the fans. Since it had an odd awkward turn into a spy plot film, that was closer to an average action film than something worthy of Pixar. But despite their risky move to the action film territory, the Cars franchise had boxed a total of $435.4 million. Turning it into one of the most successful cars movies ever since its debut on 2006, and yes there has been over 10 years since the first move.
A new trailer, and movie, obviously means new characters. Since we get to meet some of them after the first two. But the third one reveals more of them, as well as more of the plot o the film. The first we got to know McQueen’s nemesis Jackson Storm (voiced by Armie Hammer). Who is part of this new faster generation, as he looks like a mix of electric and multiple hypersonic cars. He becomes the new young hotshot, deploying Lightning and his time aside.
We also get to meet a young racing technician, fan, and enthusiast, Cruz Ramirez (voiced by Cristela Alonzo). From whom McQueen asks for help to recover his form, as she says that she will take him as his “senior project,” pun intended that will furtherly explain. But we also see in some scenes that McQueen takes her under his wing, and teaches her some racing tricks and skills. Along with a few interventions from Mater, giving the trailer a comedy relieve and a touch of humor. As it makes it way more lighthearted than the previous ones, who had a more serious tone.
Winning storyline
Despite the more warm approach on this trailer that doesn’t mean they can’t talk about serious stuff. Since the trailer reveals us the direction of the plot on the movie and talks about some really deep stuff if you consider “Cars 3,” being mainly a kids’ movie. As we see what happens to McQueen after his nearly-fatal accident, giving us a deeper storyline. Taking the movie back to its roots, focusing more on racing enthusiasts, taking us back to on Route 66, Radiator Springs, NASCAR’s Daytona, and the Piston Cup. The movie is also full of history and references that die-hard motorsports fans will recognize and surely will love.
As the clip shows us how McQueen is getting older, and nearly wrecked. He is no longer the hotshot that dazzled the Piston Cup. He isn’t as fast as he used to be, and it seems that his racing days are numbered. Even his sponsor encourages him to cash out on his legend before his advancing age, and problems threaten to trash his reputation. Especially since this new and faster generation is taking racing into a new direction, revolutionizing it. But obviously, McQueens rejects all of this saying that he “decides when he is done”.
Being this the reason why McQueen goes back to Radiator Springs and his “racing origins,” revisiting the classic characters and places. While he trains to beat the new wunderkind Jackson Storm and make it back to the top. Also, this shows the treatment of themes like legacy, failure, and taking chances in life. Delivering an inspirational message of “Don’t fear failure, be afraid of not having the chance. You have the chance.” Along with it, McQueen gives a very important, yet utopic, inspirational message about sports, as he says: “The racing is the reward, not the stuff”.
