American Idol Reboot Date Is Set. Get Ready For March 11th

The Nationwide Search For The Next Idol Kicked Off In August

The ‘American Idol’ reboot is set to hit the screens on March 11. The premiere date of the anticipated local competition series was finally announced by Ryan Seacrest on Monday.

Judge Katy Perry recently opened up about what drew her to take part of the show. She said it’s all about the “American dream.”

‘American Idol’ landing in March

Sunday, March 11 to be exact. So it said host Ryan Seacrest during ‘Live! with Kelly & Ryan’ on Monday.

The big date was also tweeted by Katy Perry, who’s set to be one of the judges of the upcoming reboot, along with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

According to reports, the nationwide search for the next Idol kicked off in August, starting in Portland and moving to, Oregon, to Orlando, Florida, in its pursuit of talent, covering 23 cities across the country.

This year auditions made the social media jump and contestants had the opportunity to submit audition videos online, as well as via select social media by using an official tag #TheNextIdol, cultivating over 300,000 posts.

This marked the first time contestants had the opportunity to audition through a live stream platform.

‘American Idol’ debuted on the Fox network in 2002 and went on to discover music greats including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert.

It went off the air in April 2016 as ratings dropped. However, recently networks engaged in fierce fight to bring back the show and it was announced earlier this year ABC would bring the classic show back.

The American dream

Earlier this year, Katy Perry was announced as one of the select judges for the ‘American Idol’ reboot. Following that announcement, the singer has made revelations about her upcoming job.

“There’s still talent out there to be discovered,” said Perry.

“There are still stars and diamonds in the rough and I think the great American dream — we can revive that in a way and show people that if they have the talent if they work really hard…maybe we can give them a little platform to just shine.”

She also revealed that ‘American Idol’ has been trying to hire her for “almost seven, eight, nine years,” she said,

“It’s never been quite the right timing…but I think now, more than ever. I wanna get to the heart of the people and I wanna hear their stories, and I wanna find a true star.”
