10. One of the most successful movies of the 90s.

The Lion King was one of the most successful movies of this decade. It raised over $300 million on theaters and over $1 in merchandises sales. And those numbers are only from the year the movie was released, 1994.

9. Tickle Me Elmo.

This classic toy became a best seller and basically a must-have toy after featuring on The Rosie O’Donnell Show.

8. Soviet Unions first broadcast American series.

In 1991, DuckTales became the first American cartoon to be broadcast in the Soviet Union since the Cold War.

7. Jessie’s addiction.

Remember that in Save by The Bell Jessie turns out to have an addiction? She was addicted to caffeine pills and is a huge and crazy drama. Well, originally she was supposed to be addicted to speed, and not caffeine pills.

5. The Tamagotchi fever!

Even when we couldn’t really pronounce the name every 90s kid had a Tamagotchi, it was the big deal back then taking care of your pet and watching it grow. Well, it turns out that Tamagotchi is a portmanteau of the Japanese words for egg and watch, I think that sums it up perfectly.

4. Banned Furbies.

Another huge thing back in the 90s were the Furbies. For some weird reason, we were crazy for these little crazy things. Well, in 1999 they were banned from the NSA headquarters. The agency feared that they would hear top secret information and then repeat it.

3. The Rugrats.

These little fellas have their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, they were given the star during their 10th anniversary in 2001. And they showed up wearing the same old clothes.
