According to some reports that emerged on Thursday, Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am “confirmed rumors” that Fergie had left the band. Then on Friday, the rapper took on Twitter to deny the reports, claiming they are “lies.”
Entertainment news magazine Ahlan! published “world exclusive” report on Thursday focusing on the Black Eyed Peas. Just before their concert at the opening ceremony of the 2017 UEFA Champions League at the National Stadium of Wales in Cardiff. In the report, the group’s leader allegedly said that Fergie was no longer part of the Black Eyed Peas.
According to the report, he called Fergie “the featured female” in several songs. Just like singers such as Macy Gray, Debi Nova, and Noelle Scaggs were the featured females in other songs. A source confirmed the departure of Fergie – real name Stacy Ann Ferguson – to E! News, saying that the singer is “just interested in working on her solo music.” “Fergie reuniting with the Peas is pretty unlikely,” the source added.
Will.i.am also allegedly spoke about replacing the singer, saying that no one is replacing her while she works on her solo project. The Black Eyed Peas are also working on a new project in order to celebrate the 20 years of the group.
The upcoming project is ‘Black Eyed Peas Present: Masters of the Sun – The Zombie Chronicles.’ A hip-hop graphic novel about zombies and an alien invasion that Will.i.am co-created and will be released by Marvel in July. He did say that singer Nicole Scherzinger is on the new BEP project, without revealing more details. But many say that she will be Fergie’s replacement.
A misunderstood: Will.i.am denied the reports the day after
On Friday, will.i.am denied the reports that had been circulating around. Tweeting that the reports are lies and that the fact that Fergie is focusing on her solo album and the BEP are working on something else, doesn’t mean that Fergie is out of the group.
It seems that we’re dealing with a misunderstood – or a statement taken out of context –, but everyone is expecting Fergie to speak out and clear the confusion. For now, she’s still a member of the hip-hop/pop group.
