The lost meme arch.
Memes are so cool and have form such a fundamental part of everybody’s life nowadays that it really makes us wonder where do they come from. Since sometimes the answer of “the dark side of the internet” or “the internet’s snappy creativity” isn’t enough.
They dazzle, entertain and speak for us that is what memes are for. So due to its meteoric virality, we are going to discover the story behind the versatile and annoying Trash Dove. Who has received many names, especially some hurtful ones.
From Florida to the world.
If you haven’t seen this purple little guy you haven’t open social media in a while. Especially Facebook. If not, enter on anyone’s profile and you will see that thousands of your friends have already posted it. The cartoony bird is called Trash Dove, and it all began in Florida and Thailand.
Trash Dove was started as a series of Facebook sticker emojis. Its creator is an American Florida-based artist called Syd Weiler. She started the illustrations on September 2016 and she then released them on Facebook stickers in January 2017.
Breaking through.
The Trash Dove series features the bird doing many goofy and funny things. But the one that became the most popular of all was the animated one. That shows the bird energetically headbanging. But then the magic occurred in Thailand.
Since a video of the dove appeared in a video dancing with a cartoon cat on very popular Thai Facebook page, early February this year. The video was pure internet gold. Escalating quickly and reaching up 4 million views in a week. After its rising popularity in Thailand, Weiler posted a thank you video on her Facebook saying: “Hello Thailand, thank you all so so much for your support. I’m really glad that you like the stickers.”
Worldwide fame.
After their Asian success, Trash Dove started taking the world. Nobody is clear what the hell it means. But its purpose of annoying everyone with it is fun to use. As even its creator, Weiler said on Facebook during October of 2016: “In case you didn’t know, I made some fantastically dumb iOS stickers, you can spam your friends and family with them!”
In its viral world domination, the purple bird has been mixed with some of this year’s hottest and newest memes. Like “salt bae” and “cash me ousside.” But the funny and annoying aspect of Trash Dove is not loved by everyone. Since there is a petition to ban the bird from the internet, by those who are fed up with it and can’t stand it anymore. But that is just how the internet rolls.
