New “Lion King” coming up!
Disney keeps surprising us, with less than a month for the long expected “Beauty and the Beast,” the House of Mouse announces the leading men for the upcoming live-action adaptation of “The Lion King.”
The project was first announced in September and still has no released date. The movie is another addition to Disney’s live-action adaptations such as Maleficient, The Beauty and The Beast and The Jungle Book.
The man for the job.
Jon Favreau was chosen as the director of the exciting project. Favreau is a long-time collaborator of Disney, not only the Iron Man movies but also the Jungle Book adaptation.
The Lion King upcoming movie won’t be a live-action but will definitely look like it. The director plans to bring the animals to life using by cutting edge technology and the green screen, just as he did with his remarkable work in The Jungle Book.
Cool announcements.
Five months after the announcement of the exciting project, Favreau announced via Twitter part of the cast, specifically the leading roles of Simba and Mufasa. Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa, which he voiced in the 1994 animated movie. Disney confirmed the cast on Friday night in a press release, saying “Disney and Favreau will build on the groundbreaking technology used in The Jungle Book to bring the story of Simba to photorealistic life.”
Glover comes as a no surprise considering the huge success the young actor and singer is having. Glover is definitely one of Hollywood’s young actors favorite, not only he won two Golden Globe for his FX comedy Atlanta but is also featuring Spider-Man: Homecoming and a Star Wars anthology about Han Solo.
Jones is not only a living legend but has an inimitable voice, I mean can you imagine Mufasa in a voice different to his? No, right.
The Lion King is one of the biggest Disney’s blockbuster, reaching nearly $1 billion for the company when it debuted. Favreau’s remake of the Jungle Book also earned an estimated of $1 billion. No doubts this movie will be a huge blockbuster.
