Mankind has always wonder of what is beyond the stars. Giving different explanations and possibilities, saying it might be God, different societies, species or even things we can’t even imagine. Due to the vast immensity of it, as the possibilities are really infinite.
Recently, as science has evolved and we have mistreated our planet, the possibility of migrating to a different planet has been studied. Since scientists have done everything in their power to see if there are planets similar to ours. Proving not only that life is sustainable in other places, but also opening tons of new question. Especially those regarding life on other planets, and now similar life to ours.
Recent discoveries.
As we have been dazzled by space and the stars many have tried to figure out if we can live in a different planet. Like Elon Musk’s project to populate Mars for example. But due to recent discoveries, it seems we won’t have to plan the life our descendants in Mars.
Since one of the greatest discoveries and advances, in science was announced by NASA. In which seven Earth-size planets have been found, orbiting at the habitable point around a star 39-light-years away. Researchers insinuate that at least six of those planets appear to have Earth-like masses: They’re made of rock and have surface temperatures between the life-friendly 0 to 100°C (32 to 212°F).
Sister solar system.
NASA is calling this a “sister solar system” to our own. Also, they believe that several of those planets could potentially host liquid water, and maybe even more important for many even have extraterrestrial life.
The discovery was made at the University of Liege, Belgium as a group of astronomers led by Michaël Gillon. Who first detected three exoplanets around an ultracool dwarf star called TRAPPIST-1, using an Earth-based telescope back in May 2016. But it was when the group of astronomers studied it them more closely, by using NASA’s Spitzer space telescope, that they discovered the additional four planets in the system.
Calming ourselves down.
Even though the breakthrough is really impressive and a fantasy to any astronomy, science or aliens fan. We shouldn’t get totally excited about it as there is still a lot to learn from these planets and system. Since we still don’t know how they orbit or how the star interacts with the planets. Even though we must admit it’s pretty exciting.
Also, one of the problems we face is the fact that these planets are very far away from us. But from what the researchers can tell is that there are at least three of the planets who are potential homes to liquid oceans. Due to the fact that the entire system actually seems to be very similar to own.
