A Giant Gold Statue Of Kanye West As Jesus Appeared In L.A.

“When celebrities show a human side, we crucify them”

The world is a really strange place. To what we people have decided to simply accept it and go on with its absurdity. You can see that with art, internet videos, current celebrities and pretty much our society as a whole. Since for many, our world has gone down the toilette.

One of the institutions that constantly portraits this flushing down and criticizes it, is art. Tackling certain aspects of it with intelligence, rawness and even humor. As we celebrate things that once analyzed are really full of nonsense. So what can be more celebrated, criticized and full of nonsense than Kanye West?

Warning, golden Kanye.

A golden statue of Kanye West posing as a crucified “Yeezuz Christ,” is on display on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. As the statue of West standing on his tiptoes, raising to heavens maybe, reads “false idol,” bellow.

Also, the statue looks a lot like an Oscar statue, especially just a few days ahead of the Academy Awards. The ironic and critic piece of art belongs to Plastic Jesus, an anonymous street artist. The whole concept of the artwork is incredible, especially due to West’s ego, craziness and self-granted title of “son of God.”

Anti-Trump series.

The artist has been focusing lately on an anti-Trump artwork series. Using irony and critic as one of the main factors. So it makes sense that West is involved in this series after his pro-Trump phrase. Also, as the same Plastic Jesus has said, we have granted too much power and influence to certain figures. That are not the best kind of role models in certain aspects.

“Kanye is a genius. He is a brilliant writer and producer, but we’ve built him up to a god-like idol. Look at what happened to him at the end of last year when he went into a mental facility suffering from anxiety, stress and, I think, depression.” Plastic Jesus told The Hollywood Reporter.

The Hollywood way.

The theme of golden statues denunciating pop cultures despicable things and Hollywood’s problems of the moment have already been done before by Plastic Jesus. Since he has been doing a yearly statue that portraits it since 2014.

The statue of “False Idol” will be on display on the weekend at the Gibson Brands Sunset, the former Tower Records building.
