Katy Perry chained us to her music with the release of a brand new song. On Friday, Perry released “Chained to the rhythm” featuring Bob Marley’s grandson Skip Marley. The catchy pop song will make a live debut on Sunday night at the Grammy Awards.
The singer decided to start the pre-Grammy party earlier this week delivering the dance song, which is Perry’s first song since the release of “Rise” last summer.
New song unveiled.
“Chained to the rhythm” is the first song Katy released in six months and is also the first single from her upcoming fourth album. The song was written by Katy, Max Martin, Sia, Ali Payami and Skip Marley. Collaborators Ali Payami and Max Martin also produced the hit, and Sia also plays a part as a guest vocalist.
The pop song tune and lyrics are an invitation to the dancefloor. The mid-tempo beat blends perfectly with Skip’s reggae elements and vocals. The synth pop song presents ideas of comfortability and complacency in people’s life.
Dropping glittery disco balls.
Throughout the week the singer teased fans via Instagram. Katy prepared her fans with a series of Instagram posts, which included a billboard of her face and a video of a woman with a mirror ball chained to her ankle.
As part of a global campaign for the song’s releasement on Wednesday 9, Katy prepared 24 locations around the world where fans could plug their headphones into a disco ball and they could listen a preview of the track.
Politically involved.
Lately, Katy’s public focus was more political than musical. The singer, who is a Hillary supporter, joined women from all over the country earlier this month at the Women’s March the day following Trump’s Inauguration.
She also served as executive producer in a public service announcement that analyzed Trump’s rhetoric called “Don’t normalize hate.” The PSA looked to create awareness and raised the question of if history could repeat itself by telling the story of a Japanese-American who recalled being sent to an internment camp for fours years during World War II.
Coming back to chain us to new music!
This girl is back and delivering cool music along with a cool lyric video. The video shows a pair of hands preparing some food in a miniaturized kitchen. At the end of the video a hamster, which was watching a mouse fellow running on a wheel on television receives the yummy prepared meal.
This way Katy portrays the conformity and delivers a quirky video to the cool song. She sings “Living our lives through a lens, trapped in our white-picket fence, like ornaments, so comfortable, we live in a bubble.” The video already has over two million views.
Don’t forget to tune Katy and Skip Marly at the Grammys on Sunday for their live performance.
