Hackers Hack into Facebook’s Official Twitter and Instagram Accounts

Hackers have hacked into the official Twitter and Instagram accounts of Facebook. The hackers have been identified to be “OurMine”, the hacking group who previously hacked into the accounts of HBO, NFL, the New York Times, ESPN, and several NFL team accounts.

After gaining control of Facebook’s Twitter and Instagram accounts at @Facebook and @Messenger, the hackers posted a message saying “Hi, we are OurMine. Well, even Facebook is hackable but at least their security better than Twitter.” This message appears at the same time on Facebook’s Instagram and Twitter.

Funny enough, the hackers tweeted on Facebook’s Twitter account that “to improve your account’s security, contact us contact@ourmine.org” and “for security services visit ourmine.org”

Facebook did not respond for information on the incident, but Twitter acknowledged the incident and said a third-party platform, probably Khoros, was used to access their account. This was the same third-party platform that was used to compromise HBO, NFL, and New York Times online accounts in the past.

“As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we locked the compromised accounts and are working closely with our partners at Facebook to restore them,” a Twitter spokesman wrote in response to media inquiries.

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey’s account has also been breached by hackers a number of times, and big email providers such as Yahoo among other big US companies have suffered the same fate, laying bare the personal details of users to the mercy of the hackers.

What OutMine stands to gain from the hack is unknown at this moment but it stands to reason that they have some mischief in mind to achieve now or later from the breach. A Twitter user, Jane Manchong Wong wrote: “It was fun watching this battle between Facebook and hackers where hackers keep posting tweets and Facebook keeps deleting them.”
