Captain Underpants: All You Need To Know About The Epic Film

Based On The Controversial Pilkey Novels, Captain Underpants Is Here To Stay.

Captain Underpants just hit the theaters and the beloved children’s hero is better than many adults expected. Despite that it’s based on toilet humor, the movie is the cinematic adaptation of the successful illustrated novels by Dav Pilkey.
The film is set to compete with another superhero movie, Wonder Woman, as they both premier on the same date. Even though one has the DC background and the die-hard fan base we still think that “Underpants” will be a success since it counts with an A-list cast and a beautiful animation.

The “Captain Underpants” novels, also have their strong fan base. Turns out they’re hugely popular among children. Also, the film, besides its obvious cute message to kids has “railed against the system” touch. Something that creator Pilkey knows since his books have been banned by several school districts.

What in the world is Captain Underpants?

The movie arrived in theaters on June 2 and is directed by David Soren. Nicholas Stroller, from “Storks” and “Muppets Most Wanted,” wrote the script adapting the cartoony novels for the cinematic world. Mark Swift and Mireille Soria are producing, along with DreamWorks Animation. Counting with the amazing voices of Kevin Hart, Ed Helms, Nick Kroll, Thomas Middleditch, Jordan Peele, and Kristen Schaal.

“Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie”  centers a pair of fourth graders. George Beard (Kevin Hart) and Harold Hutchins (Thomas Middleditch). The best friends, draw comics that they sell on the playground, they are also prankster kings at their elementary school. Their favorite creation, is Captain Underpants, a perfect and satirical take on superheroes who always seem to be wearing their underpants around.

The pair is the typical rascals who rebel against teachers, do mischievous things and are constantly sent to the principal’s office. In this occasion, their nemesis and Principal: Principal Krupp (Ed Helms) a grumpy and lonely man, has had enough of the boy’s shenanigans.

Krupp finally plots the perfect plan to end their prank regime. Putting Goerge and Harold in different classrooms at opposite sides of the school, horrifying the boys. Along with Krupp, the boys have to also deal with Melvin Sneedly (Jordan Peele), the resident fourth-grade suck-up, mole and teacher’s pet and Professor P, for Poopypants, (Nick Kroll). The mysterious new science teacher who looks like an electrocuted Einstein, with a thick German accent who also laughs like Dr. Evil hooked to a nitrous tank. Who turns out to be probably the evilest one of the three.

How is Captain Underpants born?

The story begins when Goerge hypnotizes the simple Principal Krupp with the help from a cereal box hypnosis ring. That turns their soulless principal into their valiant character, Captain Underpants the egg-shaped daredevil from their hand-drawn comic books. Principal Krupp, now turns into Captain Underpants every time he hears fingers snapping.
Once George and Harold create Captain Underpants, they start to understand why Principal Krupp is so mean. He has no friends. No one loves or cares about him, or so Krupp thinks. The boys discover that a certain lunch lady has a crush on him. So they start to use their ingenious prank skills for good. Delivering a lovely and adorable message about friendship and companionship.

A controversial cartoon

“Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” is aimed at elementary school-age children. It’s nonstop barrage of potty and poop jokes. Nothing new as the Captain Underpants books have always been quite controversial, with several parents accusing the book of using inappropriate language.
The Intellectual Freedom of the American Library Association reported that, in both 2012 and 2013, Captain Underpants had the most complaints from libraries due to offensive content in the United States. Still, the movie manages it perfectly, as it’s snarky, hilarious and even heart touching.
Beyond the beautiful message of friendship and the healthy respect for their best pals and enemies. Captain Underpants is better than many expected. Proving why the Pilkey novels are so popular. The book series has been translated into 20 languages, with more than 70 million books sold worldwide, with over 50 million in the United States alone.
Captain Underpants is a great choice for the little ones at the box office. The only thing that worries us is that it might create a generation of epic pranksters.
