Amy Schumer Strikes Haters Back After Barbie Criticisim

You Tell Em’ Girl!

Every girl’s favorite doll is on her way to the big screen for her own live-action movie. Sony is producing the story of Barbie, starring Amy Schumer. The comedian has received a lot of critics for taking this role, however, she’s proud of it.

Barbie’s character will be adapted to Amy’s personality. She’ll be a feminist willing to break standards and showing what real women do. Although there are plenty of people criticizing the movie for choosing Schumer as the doll, most of them have to do with body image.

The critics come from adults, so it’s a cause for concern.

Mattel has been trying to give Barbie a better fit to real women these days. In the past few years, the toy company has been molding the doll in new shapes that include, shorter and curvier dolls in order to teach kids that those dolls they’re playing with, look like real women. This initiative is set to change the perspective of body image.

Amy decided to answer those hater calls on Instagram.

The actress posted a photo on the social media app wearing a bikini, in the caption, she shared a message to the haters.

Schumer is proud of what she does.

“Very very honored to be nominated for 2 Grammys and to be considered to play an important and evolving icon,” she wrote. “Is it fat shaming if you know you’re not fat and have zero shame in your game? I don’t think so. I am strong and proud of how I live my life and say what I mean and fight for what I believe in and I have a blast doing it with the people I love. Where’s the shame? It’s not there. It’s an illusion. When I look in the mirror I know who I am. I’m a great friend, sister, daughter and girlfriend. I’m a badass comic headlining arenas all over the world and making tv and movies and writing books where I lay it all out there and I’m fearless like you can be.”

The role is perfect for her.

“Thanks to everyone for the kind words and support and again my deepest sympathy goes out to the trolls who are in more pain than we will ever understand,I want to thank them for making it so evident that I am a great choice. It’s that kind of response that let’s you know something’s wrong with our culture and we all need to work together to change it. Anyone who has ever been bullied or felt bad about yourself I am out there fighting for you, for us. And I want you to fight for yourself too! We need to laugh at the haters and sympathize with them. They can scream as loud as they want. We can’t hear them because we are getting shit done. I am proud to lead by example. ‘I say if I’m beautiful, I say if I’m strong. You will not determine my story. I will.’”

Barbie is expelled from her hometown for not being perfect.

The doll will have to adapt to real life, fit in the real world where she’ll live plenty adventures. When out of “Barbieland” she will find thet perfection is built from inside out, not reverse.

The message is exactly what Schumer has been doing all along.

Body shaming is soon to be a matter of the past.

Many celebrities and feminist are fighting against body image conceptions. Demi Lovato has struggled with her weight since she was a teenager, leading her to bulimia, after the recovery, she supports a healthy conception of beauty. Selena Gomez joined the fight a few months ago when she entered a mental facility due to social media aggression in the same terms.
