Reshma Qureshi, Acid Attack Survivor Goes To The NY Fashion Week
Because Victims Of Violence Should Not Be Forgotten
This is a brave acid attack survivor named Reshma Qureshi, the 19-year-old flew from India to the US where she walked the ramp at New York Fashion Week.
She was attacked by four men (including his brother-in-law), and she thought the best way to protect her and her sister was to wrestle them until they grabbed her and poured the acid on her face and arms.
The acid ate away the flesh on her left cheek and destroyed her eye.
At first, she was left having suicidal thoughts and couldn’t seem to lift her head for two years. But she associated herself with the Make Love Not Scars initiative to protest against the unbridled sale of acids in drug stores.
This week she flew from India to the US where she walked the ramp at New York Fashion Week, determined to promote the #TakeBeautyBack campaign by FTL Moda.
She walked the runway like a total diva and rocked our world with her confidence.
“I think it’s important that people hear the story about the survivors of acid attacks and to know they can lead normal lives.” She told The Independent
She wore clothes designed by Indian designer, Archana Kochhar, whose outfits are usually worn in Bollywood movies.
Reshma Qureshi said that just because someone’s face had been destroyed, they could still carry within them inner beauty and soul.
She is an inspiration to us all.
