Rick Owens is an American designer. He started his label in 1994. The pieces were sold exclusively to Charles Gallay, a boutique in LA. In 2001 he managed to expand internationally with a distribution deal with Eo Bocci, in Italy.
Vogue published a picture of Kate Moss wearing a leather jacket, made by him. This event gave the designer the opportunity to put up his “brand” among the best.
Last year, Rick Owens presented his new clothing line Spring 2016 Ready-To-Wear. The fashion show took place in Paris, October 1st, 2015. What started off as a “normal” fashion show, quickly transformed into a bunch of bizarre and oddly weird model posing. It was one model hanging from another. At first, all we could think about was: is he nuts?
The truth is Owens’s fashion show transmitted a message. I guess that for the ones with a fashion-forward vision, the message was easy to understand. But the truth is not everyone could get it so easily.
A lot of females are described as “strong woman”. Making it look like being strong when you are a woman is an exception found only in a particular kind. Of course, the intention is always good but at the end, it turns out to be like if not every female possess that ability. And this is exactly what Rick Owens show was about. His intention was to pay tribute to women, specifically to the “female strength” which is very different. The women carrying also makes reference to the pain of labor and its physical demands.
Here is a list of the top 4 most outrageous outfits:
The look number four was the first “pair”. It was a typical Rick Owens design that met everyone’s expectations. Except for the accouterment: a woman hanging from her back, and her legs sticking out.
Walking a runway could be a lot of things, but it sure isn’t easy. Now imagine having to carry someone else’s body weight. I guess, the struggle is real.
I know the message behind this is right on point and very accurate. But come on! This got to hurt a lot.
I honestly can’t decide what’s worse. If being carried or having to carry another human being.
