10 TV Shows Based On Books That Will Premiere This Year.

So Much Shows To See, So Little Time.

I love when the year begins because it usually means that a bunch of new series and movies and book are coming, YAY!! What’s not to love about it? Everybody loves them. I certainly do, and when it comes to TV shows, I enjoy them even more if they’re based on a book that I read.

This year we have a lot of this happenning. Books are taking over the TV screen with cool adaptations that will make our year great and entertaining! Classics, drama, terror, supernatural, crime, you name it and you’ll have it!

10. The Terror by Dan Simmons.

Ten years after the release of this 2007 best-selling book, AMC broadcasts a series based on Dan Simmon’s fictional novel. Created by David Kajganich and Soo Hugh, and produced by Ridley Scott, the series’s name will suit it perfectly. Following Captain Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition to the arctic, the crew fights for survival while facing a deadly predator. The cast features Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, Ciara Hinds and Paul Ready.

9. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn.

If you loved Gone Girl, then you’re down for this series based on the same author! Gillian Flynn’s 2006 book is having a series produced by HBO. The thriller will follow a journalist, Camille Preaker, who returns to her hometown to report and solve, the brutal murder of two teens. The 8 episodes show is produced and starred by Amy Adams.

8. The Cormoran Strike series by J.K. Rowling writing as Robert Galbraith.

The crime fiction books written by J.K Rowling under her pseudonym Robert Galbraith, are having an adaptation by BBC One. The story chronicles follows the cases of private investigator Strike and his assistant. The show will begin with the first novel The Cuckoo’s Calling, starring Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger. J.K Rowling will be producing herself and Michael Keillor directing.

7. Midnight, Texas by Charlaine Harris.

NBC is bringing Harris book this year to television. The upcoming drama show follows Francois Arnaud in a small town witnessing how many supernatural events have happens. Also starring the show are Jason Lewis, Sarah Ramos, Dylan Bruce and Parisa Fitz-Henley. In case you don’t know who Harris is, he’s the author of True Blood, so you can have an idea of the direction this one will take.

6. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty.

HBO will premiere Moriarty’s 2014 book on February the 19th. The comedy-drama is produced by Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. The seven-episode show, follows three women in a town dealing with their problems, while they seem to be all involved in a murder. The cast is full of big names beginning by producers Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. Also starring are Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, Adam Scott, and Alexander Skarsgård.

5. American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

Bryan Fuller and Michael Green created the show based on Gaiman’s 2001 book for Starz. Following the story of Shadow Moon a man serving prison time is all of the sudden released after his wife’s dead. Returning home and trying to put his life together he will face mysterious and dangerous situations. Starring Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane, and Emily Browning, the series will premiere in April.

4. Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery.

Netflix is producing the classic novel. Following the story of an orphan girl who’s sent to a family who originally wanted a boy, and her attempts to win them over.

3. 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher.

The 2007’s book is having a show that also matches its name, 13 episodes series on Netflix. Following the story of a boy who mysteriously receives a box of cassettes from a girl who committed suicide. Produced by Selena Gomez, and starring Dylan Minnette, Katherine Langford, Miles Heizer, Devin Druid.

2. The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.

Atwood’s 1985 acclaimed novel is getting a show on Hulu!! The upcoming television show is set in a dystopian future, following the story of a group of women who try to fight the government’s tactics of repression against them. Starring Joseph Fiennes, Elisabeth Moss, Samira Wiley, and Yvonne Strahovski. Its releasement date is on April 26!

1. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.

Netflix is adapting the popular book into an 8 episode show. Following the story of the Baudelaire siblings who have just lost their parents and their attempt to navigate some really weird and tragic situations. Starring Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Warburton, and Malina Weissman. The series will premiere this month!
