Trump Resigns From Movie Union SAG-AFTRA, Says It Had Not Benefitted Him in Any Way

Former President Donald Trump has cut ties with SAG-AFTRA, a union that he belonged to as an ex-showman and actor. Trump’s resignation was motivated by the union’s decision to boot him out for what it described as his condemnable actions as POTUS, which ended with the disastrous events of January 6 when a mob stormed the Capitol, attempting to overturn the election results.

The Republican politician greeted the announcement of his impending boot with a nonchalant “who cares?” He wrote to Gabrielle Carteris, the head of the association, on Wednesday stating that he was cutting all ties with the group immediately, instead of being a party to the disciplinary hearing.

In his letter, Trump detailed his achievements in the industry, stating the movies he had worked on and how his becoming the President of the United States helped “to revive the dying cable news TV business.” In a statement meant as a slur on Carteris, Trump wrote in his letter that he has not seen any of her works, but he has worked on many movies which he is quite proud of, Fox News reports.

Trump also stated that his show “The Apprentice,” was one of the most successful things that have happened to the industry for a very long time.

The former president also described how he was able to help cable news television after he was elected, referring to CNN as “Fake News CNN” and bragging about how he was able to provide jobs for thousands of people at MSDNC and another news channel. The former president also stated that the union has failed in its responsibilities to its members and is only trying to use the disciplinary hearing to distract members of the public.

Trump, a former TV show anchor, who joined the union in 1989, also mentioned agitations made by members of the union such as Morgan Freeman, who uploaded videos online asking the union to be more helpful to its members. Trump ended his letter by stating that he wishes to cut all ties with the association effective immediately since they had been of no use to him.

The union sought to sanction Trump for his role in inciting the riots in the US Capitol, an incident that caused the death of five people, including a law enforcement officer. The union stated that Trump’s behavior while in office was quite harmful to journalists who are also members of the association. Last month, Carteris said Trump’s actions directly negate everything the union stands for.

Next week, the Senate will begin Trump’s impeachment for his involvement in the riot.
