Traci Braxton, the sister of Grammy Award winner Toni Braxton is dead. Traci died of esophageal cancer at the age of 55. Her husband Kevin Surratt announced the bereavement before Toni confirmed it on Instagram. Traci was said to be surrounded by family at the time of her passing.
“We have come to a time when we must inform the public that after a year of privately undergoing a series of treatments for esophageal cancer, our beloved Traci Braxton has gone on to glory,” Surratt disclosed.
Toni said her sister Traci “was a bright light, a wonderful daughter, an amazing sister, a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and a respected performer.” She said Traci was an angel who is now a snowflake since she passed while it snowed. “We will miss her dearly…we are family forever,” she stated. The Breathe Again crooner urged the public to respect their privacy as “we plan to send her home with love…”
Surratt said his wife had been fighting cancer for over one year without alerting the world to her medical ordeal. Traci was also a singer and actress who released the album Crash & Burn in October 2014 and her second album On Earth in 2018. She had released the single Last Call before her first album and another single titled Perfect Time in 2015. Her second album featured hits such as Lifeline and Broken Things.
The entire Braxton sisters – Toni, Traci, Towanda, Trina, and Tamar sang together and signed their first deal with Arista Records in 1989. But Toni, 54, went solo in 1991 and the other Braxton sisters backed up for her the first time she toured the United States. They also have an elder brother, Michael Braxton Jr., whose daughter Lauren died of a drug overdose in 2019 at age 24. And lately, in July 2020, Tamar attempted suicide by taking an overdose of a prescription drug.
In 2011, all the sisters, including their mother, engaged in the reality show Braxton Family Values. Traci was in Marriage Boot Camp season three and featured in the movies Sinners Wanted and The Christmas Lottery as well as Chaaw.
