Simone Biles was once again in the spotlight, but not for the reason you might think. Simone, the winner of five gold medals in Rio 2016, posted a photo wearing a swimsuit and shorts, and she got body shamed because of her ‘ugly arms’. Instead of ignoring the comment, she chose to bravely confront the critics.
It’s not the first time she has been a target of haters, and other successful female athletes like UFC fighter Ronda Rousey have gone through the same body-shaming experience of social media, challenging the classical stereotype of a ‘beautiful body’.
This is the pic for which she was body shamed:
The teenager posted a photo on the Instagram showing her athletic figure to the world in a white bathing suit. No reason to be body-shamed, she looks natural and happy.
But internet trolls like this couldn’t help themselves.
Some hater posted a comment about how ugly her body looked like. Really? After he noticed the mistake, the troll tried to make it seem like a joke, but that’s still really awful.
The 19-year-old star responded.
The Rio Olympic star decided to speak up in the sweetest way. She took Twitter to talk about how she’s comfortable with her body.
Simone had America’s support.
People started to thank her for her beautiful message as she’s giving the best example for kids.
This isn’t the first time she’s suffered from body shaming.
It’s not the first time she has been criticized for her body, as haters came pouring when she and other female Olympic athletes (which tend to have muscular bodies) became world-famous in Rio 2016. But it is the first time that she has been vocal about it.
