Yes, This Is Real

Movies are one of the greatest creations of the last centuries, to the point it has become the 7th art. Not only it has reached the art title but also it has really turned into a mass phenomenon. Praising the films and turning the actors and directors into stars.

For this, and many other reasons, movies has become an industry. Logically, it generates awards and competitions to recognize the best movies. Being the most serious and known of all this awards the Oscars.

Awards of the people.

Even though the Oscars are the most respected and prestigious awards for the film.  Many have complained that the Academy only honors certain movies, leaving aside some films beloved by the masses. So for that, a less serious, yet legitimate answer happened.

That is why MTV created their MTV Movie Awards. As an annual ceremony that oftenly hands out awards to blockbusters that are loved by the crowd. Being aired for the first time in 1992, until today. But unlike many other award ceremonies, the MTV Movie Awards were initially taped and then broadcasted. This changed in 2007 when the ceremony began broadcasting live, becoming a more spontaneous and fluid show. Only to change back to the previous format on 2016.

A 2017 of changes.

But it seems that MTV has quickly changed their minds, announcing that the 2017 ceremony will be broadcast live. Also, the ceremony will have a major change as it will not only recognize the movies but also the TV. Becoming now the MTV Movie & TV Awards.

The ceremony is going to be on Sunday, May 7 at 8 pm and will take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, which has previously host the event in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2005 editions. Since the TV categories will be introduced, and yet to be revealed, this will change the structure of the ceremony. As the movie-related categories will be expected to be cut down or rearranged.

Stories everywhere.

Besides the rearrange on the awards for movies and the determination of the TV categories a host is yet to be defined. As the MTV Movie awards have been known for having some epic and more serious host. Some of the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart. In comparison with the Oscars that are generally hosted by comedians and late-night hosts.

This change to the ceremony has been explained by the Network President Chris McCarthy, and it really makes a lot of sense. As McCarthy stated in an official press release: “We’re living in a golden age of content, and great storytelling and characters resonate regardless of whether you’re watching it in a theater or on TV. The new ‘MTV Movie & TV Awards’ will celebrate even more of the brightest, bravest, funniest and most shared films and TV shows resonating across youth culture.”
