During her visit to the ‘Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on Thursday (June 14). Miley Cyrus opened up about the reasons she decided to give up marijuana. And it includes a really bizarre nightmare.
The 24-year-old singer, who is currently promoting her upcoming studio album, appeared on Fallon’s show to talk about many different things. Like why she decided to quit weed and stay sober.
“I’ve always been very stoned on your shows. I don’t know if you know this, everybody.” She confessed to Fallon, who jokingly replied, “That makes two of us.” She then explained the reason behind being dressed as a rabbit and later like a cat, the last time she was at the show: “I was high.”
In a more serious tone, she said that she actually stopped smoking marijuana to be clear and sharp when talking about her new album. Saying that she has been really passionate during the making of it. “This record, for me, at this moment, is the most important album that I’ve ever made. So I wanted to make sure I’m super clear about the way I’m talking,” the Grammy nominee said.
A nightmare was crucial to finally take her decision
The irreverent former Disney star explained that she had a recurring nightmare that freaked her out and decided to quit smoking weed for good.
“I kept having this nightmare, it was seriously horrible. I wonder if you’ve had this – not about this show,” she explained. “I had this dream that I would die during my monolog on SNL for some reason. That I would just get so stoned that I just died, which I Googled, and that’s never happened.”
Indeed, till date, not a single case of an overdose of marijuana has been reported. But still, Cyrus was afraid. “No one’s ever died from weed, but no one has ever smoked as much as I did,” she said – but I think Snoop Dogg might have some thoughts about that.
The singer added that if she was going to talk to people about her new music, she needed to be clever and “sound as smart” as she could. But every time she smokes she just wants to “sit at home and eat.”
Back in May, days before releasing her single “Malibu,” Cyrus confessed in an interview with Billboard that she was no longer going to smoke weed and that in fact, by the time, she had been sober for three weeks.
“I’m not doing drugs, I’m not drinking, I’m completely clean right now!” she said. She also changed the people she surrounds herself with, and she’s now hanging out “with people that make me want to get better, more evolved, open.”
A month after releasing “Malibu,” the singer debuted her new single “Inspired” for Pride Month. She performed both live during ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
