Lionel Richie and Mariah Carey are about to kick off their ‘All the Hits’ tour, and Richie says he’s letting Carey bring everything she needs – and boy, that’s a lot.
In a recent interview, Richie joked about how he’s expecting Carey to bring her massive escort on tour with her and that she might need a “dressing room larger than the arena.”
“I wanted her to feel in her element,” Richie said. “And a diva has to do what a diva has to do.” The multiplatinum-selling artist said he invited Mariah Carey on tour because of her discography of hits and campy vibe.
“It’s going to be a camp city,” he said. “And I told her, ‘Bring all the camp with you.'”
The Oscar, Golden Globe, and Grammy-award winner will launch his upcoming ‘All the Hits’ tour alongside the “Vision of Love” singer on July 21 in Oakland. Together they’ll perform on 22 different dates and cities across North America, including Toronto and Vancouver.
The tour was originally set to kick off in March
Richie and Carey announced their co-headlining tour back in December and was originally set to run mid-March to late May.
But in February, Richie announced in a statement that the tour had to be postponed as he suffered a knee injury and had to undergo surgery.
“When you have been performing as long as I have it takes a toll on your body. Unfortunately, my recovery from a knee procedure will not have me 100 percent ready to start the tour next month. I don’t want to disappoint my fans and I look forward to being back on stage so we can all be ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ together again,” Richie said in the statement.
In order to recover, the tour was delayed for five months. It also was reduced from 35 dates to 22, with show cancellations in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, St. Louis, Nashville, and Charlotte.
